how do you know you could be sleep walking? do you wake up while sleep walking, do you remember things the next day and figure out you were sleep walking or does somebody catch you . For months now i've been having nightmares that i'm sleep walking and taking my son outside leaving him outside. That is all i can remember , then i wake up and he's gone...no idea what happened. I HATE THESE NIGHTMARES, WHAT DOES IT MEAN!! its gotten to the point where i'm so afraid to go to sleep. My husband works at night and on his days off he's a heavy/deep sleeper he doesn't even notice when i get up. Anyway, there's been times where i text while i'm asleep, and i know this because i'll see a txt the next day and don't remember sending that at wee hours of the night. I'm scared i might do something horrible. Could this just be nightmares or could it really mean something?? As far as i know, i don't sleep walk but apparently i "sleep text" AM I CRAZY?? WHATS GOING ON

What can I do next?

Hi,

Firstly, I strongly suggest you pray before you sleep. Anything that you do while you're sleeping which you should not be doing are part of your subconcious mind. Sometimes there are deep-seated emotions that we can't release when we are awake and that are released when we sleep. If you want to really know if you are doing anything that you should be alarmed of while you're sleeping, you can actually go to a doctor. They will conduct a certain sleep test. You just have to spend several nights at the hospital because they need to observe you. I am not really sure about the procedure. Anyway, try to give time to relax. Learn how to vent out your emotions. I hope you'll be okay soon. God bless.

Sleep walking in adults is very rare. I've always been a sleep walker, but it's been years since I've "walked". But I do sleep sit and can even hold a conversation on the phone (or so I'm told) :) Even if you sleep walk it is highly unlikely you would ever leave the house. Even among active walkers, this is a very rare situation.

If you are still concered, I agree with Patricia. Go see a sleep therapist.

Just to add, I never knew I was sleepwalking. I would either be told by someone or wakeup the next morning to find my room rearranged. You could try setting up a video camera and see what you do at night. Good luck!!

First off praying will not do a thing for a medical condition such as sleep walking. No offense but if your kid was sick you wouldn't pray for him, you'd go see a doctor. You being a mom I SERIOUSLY doubt you have it anywhere in your subconscious that you want to leave your kid outside, alone, at night. That's laughable. My little brother growing up did this a lot (sleep walking, not praying) my parents would put obstacles in the hallway, something that you would have to climb over to get to the door (like a big soup pot tipped between the wall and a tv tray so any little bump would send it clanking to the ground) also, put masking tape on the inside of your door, that way if the door opens the tape rips and at least you'll know you are actually doing these things. As for the sleep texting put your phone on your dresser or someplace you would have to get out of bed to get to, that way you wont miss an important call but won't be so close as to send messages you won't remember.
