My son does that too.In the day time when he naps its usually on the couch with the tv on or i'm cleaning all around him. At night i have to have a fan running in the summer time,not always pointed on him and in the winter we have a cool mist humidifer which helps with a stuffy nose too.sometimes its just to quiet to sleep,if that doesn't sound odd :}

Does he have a night light? Maybe he doesn't like waking up in the dark throughout the night. He could be disoriented and a little scared. If a light doesn't work then put a small fan in his room. My husband and I and both our kids need white noise to sleep.

K., I am a light sleeper myself. I have a Homemedics (Target) "sound spa". They sell them near the alarm clocks or sometimes by the hair dryers. They are around $15. Wonderful. You have 7 sounds to choose from, I like rain.
Just something to keep the other noises out. If it doesn't work for your little one, you'll probably love it for yourself!
Music works for a while, but when they are older, they often wake when the CD is done, or they actually start "listening" to it, keeping them awake. Plus the changes from song to song can startle them awake.
Good luck!

theres nothing wrong with letting your baby have white noise while he is sleeping. it is VERY comforting to most babies to replicate sounds of the womb... no matter what age, some noise blocking is OK! :D
my son is 2 and we still use a vacuum cd! :D "for crying out loud" is a cd with 8 different white noise tracks on it. you can search for the cd on the internet. i think i got mine through amazon. anyway, im sure my son doesnt need it all the time, but my husband sure does! he is STILL a light sleeper at night. oru son sleeps in our room, so we all get the vacuum cd to kinda distract the noises from outside or whatever. :D
its a good thing.
just do what you gotta do! LOL. :D
good luck.
silence is unsettling to a baby cuz its so loud in the womb! LOL

I am a huge believer in white noise! With my first baby, I noticed that she slept well when the vacuum was on. I had the cleanest carpets in the neighborhood! When baby #2 came along 18 months later, I didn't have the time (or energy!) to continually vacuum so I used a fan. That would have been alright, but it was winter and very cold. So I put a space heater in her room in combination with the fan which worked well. Another 2 years passed and baby #3 came along. One night, as I was sitting up with him, I thought, "Man, these noises he likes should be on a cd." Was I ever surprised when I went online and found that these noises were referred to as "white noise". The biggest surprise was the cost attached! That is when I went to my husband and asked him to put some favorite sounds on a cd. Anyway, short story long, he did and we sell them on my website. Here is a link to that page:
www.happymomonline.com/pages/whitenoisecd.htm
They are only $6 as I think all moms should have one or two. There are 4 sounds - 15 minutes of each. Set the cd player to repeat on the sound your child finds the most soothing and it will play all through sleep time.
I wouldn't be too concerned about your baby becoming dependant upon it. My kids (my 5th just turned one last week) sleep with it at home, but when we're traveling they don't use it and do just fine. However, if your little one really likes it it is on cd and travels easily.
Best wishes with this and any future issues that arrise in your parenting journey!
Blessings!
Heahter :-)

Babies R Us sells a white noise machine by Dex. It is awesome we have two. And it can be battery powered or by ac adapter. It has 10 or more different sounds and noise combination's. There is no harm in him needing a little white noise to sleep. It works great for our two kids and I even like sleeping to the sound of the ocean too.

Read Dr Sears Night Time Parenting, it saved our lives! Ask Dr Sears Web Site is also a great help.

White noise is soothing, so use it. This is another stage that he will go through. It won't last forever and may go as easy as it came.

Enjoy your little one and keep him close, as they grow so fast.

Someone once said to me the days are long but the years are short. I think this is true when it comes to parenting!

Good luck and don't worry or fret, this too shall pass.
Blessings,
J.

Whay are you "afraid" of him needing white noise to sleep? it is usually an easy thing to come by, even if you are travelling - you could either get a small white noise machine, , use a CD player or MP3 player( with small portble speakers - this is the easiest to travel with) with a white noise Cd or tracks on repeat, or use a small fan.

We strated using a small fan and a CD of music on repeat when our daughter was 7 months old - her room is on the sie of the house next to the street - there is alot of noise because we live on a truck route to the grain elevator in town. It helped tremendously, and yes, she does like her music and asks for it....I just copied her CDs onto my iPod and we take it with us when we travel.

Good Luck!

I have used a fan or noisy air filter in my kids room since birth. In fact, I need a fan or other white noise to sleep soundly so I guess they got it from me. Its not going to hurt him so why not?

We bought a white noise machine for our son who's a light sleeper a while back. It was one of the best investments we've made!!
