Hi A.:
When my little guys were drooling so much I used those heavy, towel-like bibs all day. Instead of changing shirts, I changed bibs!
Good luck!
Ok Moms I have a strange issue. My 15 month old drools sooooo much it is unreal. My question is how do you get the smell of drool out of their clothes? It seems like I can spray and wash them as much as I want and that smell does not come out. My daughter never drooled this much and I never had this issue before. I almost rather throw his clothes away and by more. I change his shirt a few times a day.
I would like to thank all of you for your responses. Thank you so much to all of you who suggested the vinegar and baking soda. I took all of his shirts and soaked them for 15 minutes the washed them. I pulled them out of the dryer and there is no smell!!!!! Thanks sooooo much again. Happy New Year to you all.

Soak them in vinegar water(2 cups), then wash. You can alkso add baking soda to the wash. 1 cup will do the trick.

My son also drooled a lot so I started having him wear bibs all day long! It works pretty well and keeps you from having to change his clothes so much.
i soak in baking soda and vinegar then wash it seems to do the trick. my son's drool stinks too!
I noticed that my son drooled much more than my daughter also. I have always used Amway products and the non-chlorine bleach gets all the "funky" smells out of our wash. Also, if it is a real problem, you may try a bib that can easily be changed several times a day.
Try a cup of OYI Clean in the wash with his clothes and let soak overnight. This also helps with stains. Then just wash normally. Good Luck!
Add baking soda to your laundry. It takes out all odors I have had to deal with - even day old urine!
The enzymes in the saliva is what makes the smell, so recommend you use Simple Solution or Nature's Miracle, but Simple Solution is usually cheaper. You can find it in the pet care area at Target or Walmart or Petsmart or Petco. Buy the original kind, not the carpet cleaner or Oxy kind. It should come in at least two sizes with the larger around $20. Dampen the clothes & bibs completely and let them set for a while, maybe 20 minutes and then wash in machine according to the clothing requirements.
The SS is marketed for pets, but is great to have handy for cleaning up vomit, urine, feces and anything else kids get on clothing, carpets & furniture. My boys are now 5 & 7 and they always seem to "miss" the toilet when peeing. Even when I disinfect the area, there is sometime a permeating smell of urine. About once a month I use the SS to wipe down the walls and tile around the toilet to keep it smelling fresh.

I had a child like t hat and I got a bunch of bibs, and changed them about as often or more than a diaper, and as for the clothes, try 20 mule team borax, or soda.
Hi A.,
Rather than worrying about washing his clothes or throwing them away, perhaps you could try tying a bandana or hankerchief around his neck to catch it all - or use it to wipe the drool off. If you get a dark color, you won't be able to see any staining - not sure what to do about the odor however. Just a thought...
I'm sure it's just a teething phase and he'll get through it shortly.
I use Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda (which I can get at Kroger - Walmart,Target don't carry it) added to my wash and it works like a champ. My son drooled like a fiend also, and some of the clothes sent home from daycare were wet inside a bag so they got the mildew smell, but the A&H took it right out.
I agree with the borax with your soap (I use all natural ecos from sams) and white vinegar in your rinse. It takes care of everything and is safe for the most sensitive skin.
I definitely agree with the mommy who mentioned speech, etc. My son did the same thing and it turned out that his jaw muscles were underdeveloped. Speech therapy did the trick. We had all kinds of blowing and sucking exercises like drinking through straws and blowing on toy flutes, etc. Give it a try! Good luck :)

I would use a combination of washing soda & borax (you can get from places like Market Street off Bethany in Allen for $2.00 a box) Use about a tablespoon each per gallon of water and soak the clothes for a couple of hours prior to washing them or for a whole load use about 1/4 cp each, soak, run through washing cycle with regular detergent. After washing, hang outside to dry in the sun light. The sun will naturally bleach out any protein stains as well as smells. (You can also use baking soda, if in a pinch)
have you tried putting a bib on him?
It might not be drool you are smelling. it may be a mildew smell from the drool being on the clothing...
If the drool does smell real acidic then he might benifit from some mylanta liquid... for that age its 1/2 teaspoon... my kids had real acidic tummies and reflux for that matter and after they out grew the real reflux (about 12 months) we used mylanta origonal liquid for any occasional reflux or acidy drool or even bad diapers and rashes, the mylanta takes the acid out so they dont get rashes as much. we even would mix the mylanta liquid with some desitin origonal and make a paste then spread it on the hiney when my kids had bad poo poo that would cause bad rashes and it really helped to nix the acid in the poop. We got that from a friend who's dr told her to do that and it really did work for us...
Good luck

Borax works wonders. It's the only thing that would get out urine smells in my kids' clothes. It's gentle and works really well, plus you don't have tho perfumes and dyes to deal with.
Carters makes a very good water-resistant bib called Dribblehappy. They worked really great and come in a whole lot of cute designs. Brushing his teeth more often might also help with the smell.
You may want to try have him just wear a soft bib for a while until he finishes teething. My 5 month old drools a lot (doesn't smell). She drools so much that the front of her clothes get soaked; so I put a bib on her. She wears that most of the day. Also, Biz has done wonders for me on infant clothing that has stained. Don't throw the clothes away until you try BIZ first. Pack some BIZ on the area you want to clean and soak it in a bin of BIZ at least overnight. If it does not eliminate the odor of stain; repeat. It should come out after at least two soakings.
Heh, I don't have any advice for the slobbering, but I use OdoBan from Sam's Club to remove all the smells from my laundry/home. It works great. I have a son who is STILL peeing the bed and it takes urine smells out of sheets, laundry, etc. IT works great! It's about $10/gallon.
My oldest granddaughter drooled from the time she was born almost---excessively----we invested in several bibs---and we changed those se4veral times a day inste4ad of her clothes---they are easier to launder and if they get too bad---easy to toss away. I do not remember there being an odor--other than milk smell--but if you put a little baking soda in your wash that will help with odors in clothes! Merry Christmas!
I suggest trying what A. says and instead of having to change shirts so often try using a bib with a water proof backing to it (Pin it to his shirt with a diper pin so he can't take it off.)You just change bibs instead of shirts so often and his chest stay dryer.

My oldest daughter was the same way . . . she was a constant running faucet. My solution was to always keep a small bib on her, preferably with vinyl backing. The bib was changed several times a day, but it helped preserve her clothes. No, it may not always look pretty, but it saved a lot in the laundry department!
Merry Christmas A.,
Try using 3/4 Cup of white vinegar in a full load of wash. The vinegar smell will evaporate when the clothes dry. You can also use 3/4 Cup of baking soda. you can use a little more that 3/4 if needed. Either of them work really well for urine, drool or even vomit. Sorry, lol I know that sounds bad but they are great for getting rid of odors.
Take care and have a wonderful Christmas,
a little baking soda and vinegar. good luck.
I agree with everything the other ladies have shared with you about laundry and such but I'd like to add a word of caution about the drooling itself. Some kids are just droolers and that's the way it is. My son was a mighty drooler. It was like a constant flow from his mouth. It turned out that he had some motor skill problems. Be on the lookout for his eating and talking and things. If all that is progressing normally then just keep washing his clothes and be patient. But if you notice that he has trouble with eating solid foods and with speech (unusual sounds) I'd bring it up to your pediatrician. My son was given some therapy and he's doing much better now. Like I said, he may just be a drooler but I thought you may want to keep an eye on the cause as well.
I add about 1/2 a cup of white vinegar to my laudry soap when doing towels that have the musty smell to them. I image vinegar would help take the smell out of the clothes too - worth a try. I also did a lot of bibs when my daughter was smaller. Like most said - not pretty but it worked to save the clothes.
Baking soda works great. I also used it for a child who wet the bed.
Have you discussed this with his pediatrician? I think I would as I have never heard of bad smelling drool. Does his breath smell?
