So When Was the Last Time?

So I just answered another post with this story but it got me thinking. When was the last time you and your kids did something just for the heck of it?
Monday I took my youngest son with me to run errands, we ended up having a late lunch at Subway and then wandering around a new pet store in the neighborhood. We played with the lizards and the puppies and talked to the Parrot. It was loads of fun much more fun than going home and finishing the list of stuff "to do" today. So my question is when was the last time you and your kids, or just you decided to just go off the map?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

it is good to hear about moms doing things like this I see so many moms running on time lines where every minute is scheduled. Personally I think being a mom should be fun, there should be "hookie" days every now and then and stopping every once in a while to just enjoy the fact that your kids are fantastic

I had a full day planned on Weds, but on Tues nite we had a tornado nearby, lost power, and had some minor damage. A friend of mine had glass strewn across her back yard, so I offered her my shop-vac and babysitting services, and she dropped her kids off for an impromptu play-date. My kids LOOOOOVED it, as did hers, and it was actually much LESS stressful than the day I had planned, and I still got to do the errands I needed later that night.

Everyday.
But I also manage to do my 'chores/errands/too.
And today I was not on time for everything, as I usually am. I just said "whatever!" the world will not end.

The other week at the last minute, I planned a sleep-over for my daughter. My daughter asked, I said Okay, called all her friends, and that night, it was a sleep-Over!

A couple weeks ago, I had a houseful of chores to do, but woke up on Saturday morning and said to my son, "we're having an adventure today."

And so we went to a lake in the mountains, hiked a little, waded in the shallow water, caught little fish in my son's net, and just had an awesome, awesome day. He was thrilled and thanked and thanked me for taking him. If only he knew how it pleased me as much, or more, than it pleased him.

I'm a huge fan of serendipity! :)

I picked my son up from my mom's and stopped at the MLB ballpark so he could check out all the cool statues around the park, checked out the water steps near the river, waded in them & went up & down, looked at the river, the boats parked at the shore & the nearby submarine at the science center. Good day!
We do stuff like that all the time.

I will spontaneously lock up the house and we will go wander the neighborhood for hours.

We live between two elementary schools..so we end up at one most the time. We have gone on countless ventures just to find the ice cream man...even though I know we wont find them.

I dont tend to go off the map when we are out running errands. I do everything to be ''GAS'' friendly and so I usually have my route routed before we are leaving.

I used to love and just get in the car and just GO...Maybe once the kids are grown a bit...we can do this a bit more freely.

Me and my 4 year old little girl did this yesterday:) we went to a new park she has never been to for an hour. Then we went to a pet store that was 3 blocks away and we had fun playing with the kittens, we watched a dog get its hair cut and then watched the turtles swim away. On the way home we stopped and had lunch at burger king while she played with some little girls on the play gym inside. On the way back home she asked if we could stop and take a look at the zebras .( A family has moved in a half a mile from my house and has zebras) So we did that and we headed back home. I had tons of stuff to do around the house but getting out and spending time with my little one met the world to her and I. We will do this more often.. that smile on her face was priceless.

Almost every day! When I start getting overwhelmed with work and housework and hit that breaking point, I'm like 'Screw it all! Let's go play!'... we'll go on scavenger hunts, play in the pool, do arts and crafty stuff, make forts, paint our nails, make smores on the stove, color the side walk, read, go to the river, just anything to reset our heads and have fun :)

Almost everyday when the kids aren't in school. I'm a "fly by the seat" kind of gal.

My daughter and I just got back from a walk to our local toy store. We needed to get a present for the birthday party she's going to tomorrow. But we stayed and played with all the toys, too! I love having stores that we can walk to, and it's a beautiful day in Minneapolis today!

Every day! I am horrible at scheduling and we end up having a great time! I did manage to get the dishes done today and I have a HUGE "to do" list, but we got our spontaneous fun out of the way this morning! :)

My friend mentioned she was picking strawberries so I asked if my son and I could join her and her son and then we went to a nature park for a few hours and had a blast!

My husband and son have been in NJ for the last 3 days and my youngest daughter's been spending the last 2 nights at my sister's house, so it's been just me and the middle child for 2 days. It's been awesome! We have no set schedule, we went to the mall together, out to lunch, stayed up late watching a movie, just hanging out and spending time together at home. I haven't done a single chore - laundry is sitting in baskets, dishwasher needs to be unloaded. But blowing all that off to just BE with my daughter has been soooo worth it!

All the time! Last night after my son woke up from a nap, he wanted to go feed the ducks. So, we went where we feed the ducks, we were having such a good time, we decided to eat out instead of going back home for left overs. I love spontaneity as much as i love schedules.

My daughter and I do stuff like that all the time. We'll be out and just out of the blue one of us will say hey let's go swimming or walk around the mall or go get ice cream or something totally random. I love doing stuff like that with her. It's when we have the most fun!

Today I took my oldest son (7y/o) with me to the pool store to get the water tested and we just kinda lingered around looking at all the cool pool toys and then walked next store to get him an ice cream cone (we NEVER do that!) and then wandered into the skate shop in the same parking lot to look at all the cool toys...it was so much fun just chillin' with him 1:1, which we RARELY do.....man I LOVE that kid :)

~You are absolutely right about how much fun it is to just go off the map and not get saddled by the 'to do lists' every once in awhile! I need to try to do that more often!

I work full time so I take advantage of the weekend. I clean only 1 day and the other day is totally devoted to my kids. I usually let them decide what it is and where they want to go that day :) it's quite fun!
