Hi everyone, I want to have some little family trips this summer. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for some small inexpensive weekend trips. It would be my husband and I and 4 and 3 yr old boys and a 1 yr old girl.We do have an RV but have never used it close to home. So any camp grounds anyone know of would be good to.
Thankyou!!

Branson, MO. We take our kids there every summer and we have for the past 18 years. Silver Dollar city is fun. There are very nice camp grounds at the table rock state park. Clean bathrooms and private showers! You can rent boats at the camp ground from the state park marina for 2 hours or a full day. Its tons of fun. There is also alot to do on the Branson strip for little kids. Bumper cars, little rides, mini golf, bumper boats. There is a great magic show there as well. We love it!
Omaha Nebraska has about the best zoo in the area, we've gone 4 of the past seven years! We love it. We live north of the river not far from the airport and it's about a 3 1/2 - 4 hour drive for us. They have a cute downtown with shops and restaurants. They also have an air force museum full of planes and exhibits. What about St. Louis? Great zoo, and several other family friendly places, Grant's Farm- love it. The Arch of course, great science museum, etc...
We also like Minneapolis, Minnesota, for the Mall of America.
Hope that sparks some ideas.
We went to Omaha last summer with our 3 and 18 month old. We stayed at Kelly Inn and they have an awesome pool for young kids. It had a kiddie slide, lilly pads, and a larger slide too! The kids enjoyed going down the larger slide on mom and dad's laps! We visited the Omaha zoo and the Children's Museum. We had a blast!!
we go to branson, Mo every summer or fall and love it and it is reasonable. try silver dollar city with the kids they will love it!! you can stay on the lake in a resort with a full size kitchen and have a bbq on the lake it is so nice and relaxing.
Hi S.,
We went before with kids to the Buffalo River in Arkansas, you can camp and canoe and the kids love it there! You also have caves close by.
Lake of the Ozarks....and Saint Louis, there are lots of things to do out there, not sure how long you want to travel but there are many different places to go.
We normally go to a lake during the Summer because my husband is a windsurfer so we go to Pomona or Melvern and camp there, they both have a beach area and campgrounds. You can also go to other lakes like Jacomo, Smithvile, Clinton, Longview, all around Kansas or Missouri. Truman lake has a beautiful beach area and campground.
If you are willing to go on the road, then you can go South, we have been to South Padre Island several times (about 17 hour driving) but worth it! Other places in the coiast of Texas like Corpus are nice too. San Antonio is a beautiful place to visit too with Sea World and nice river walk area.
You can also go North in the Summer, we have been to South Dakota to meet the presients:) it is amazing there! Or go west to Colorado and see the springs and the canon...and camp with wolves! (You can hear them and see some coyotes looking for food)
If you would like more info on any of this places I will be happy to provide it!
Have a great vacation!!! Oh! See the movie RV before using one:)))

Try Branson, MO. or even Springfield, MO. Good luck to you & I hope one or both of these work for you.
I highly recommend Basswood Resort just north of KCI. My family and I love to go there. They have a web site at www.basswoodresort.com. They have excellent activities for children. They also sell ice cream at nights and offer hayrides for free. The staff and campers are always so friendly we feel at home.
We love Lake of the Ozarks and Branson. You're smart to keep it simple with kids that young. They are easily entertained and don't expect a lot(like Disney, etc...) Visiting cousins and grandparents can also be some of the best trips for them. Some friends of ours went to South Dakota last year (the Badlands) and really enjoyed it.
We just got our first new (used) fifth wheel and are thinking the same thing as you. It's a 2005. Anyhoo, I plan on some nice little trips to Branson, Omaha (heard the Zoo is outstanding there) and Eureka Springs (I think it's called) Arkansas. Not too far and will still feel like a getaway. We purchased a KOA membership for like $19 and plan on staying at those campgrounds because I've been to a few and they've always been friendly and clean. Inexpensive way to travel...take advantage of your RV.
