You definitely need to treat this with a Doctor.
I hope I'm completely wrong, and this may not be your situation,my understanding of warts on your private areas are considered STDs. A wart on the hand/foot can not give you a wart on your bottom. I would also examine his mouth. I would rule out sexual misconduct by getting more information from your doctor.

40 Warts?
Explain to your son that going to the doctor is NOT something to be ashamed of.
That's what doctors are for, and they probably see about 10 butts or so a day. That'll probably make him laugh!
If you don't get rid of them now, how many more does he want before he'll cave and go to the doctor? 40 seems excessive, are you sure they are warts?
Don't guess, and don't do OTC - go to the doctor.

Boy does this bring back old memories! When I was a child in the 50's I had 40 boils on my butt, and I had to bring a rubber do-nut to school, or stand for all my classes. It was embarrasing because we had to tell the teacher about it, and try not to tell any of the kids. I was about in third or fourth grade. Every night my mother used to try to drain them by squeezing, and it was excruciatingly painful. Finally, she took me to a Dr., who told her that squeezing them was not helpful at all. We used a dark purplish black ointment that the Dr. gave us, that "sequestered" and became clear when we put it on. It cleared them right up within about a week. I had had them for more than a month by that time. I can not remember the name of that ointment, a pharmacist might know, if you described it to him. But, these were boils with puss inside, not warts, so it might not touch your problem. Your son certainly has my sympathy. Warts generally last a while and then fall off, so just keep the area as clean and dry as you can, if he doesn't want to burn them off again. I had recurring small warts on my hands as a young adult, and I would pick them off after washing dishes every night. After a few years they quit coming back. Tell him to be grateful they are out of sight. I always wondered why you never hear of kids getting boils these days. When I was a kid it was quite common. You might go to a health food store and ask if there is a homeopathic or herbal remedy too. Good luck!

hi D., my understanding is warts are a form of skin fungus, or skin virus, I think if you were to treat the cause the warts may stop coming back. You can try Tea Tree oil, not for the ones on his bottom, but his neck ottother places. We use Tea Tree Oil for a lot of stuff, you can get it at any health food store I do beleive, be get ours at Henry's. J. L.

Are they called warts by the dermatoligist? the treason i ask, My son had all these small bumps, and they weren't warts, i don't remmeber what they were called, but, it started w/ an M. Anyways, he has had a couple rounds of them removed. and the derm said they are real common at his age (7 at the time) now his 5 yr old brother has a few. and, i dont think i'll get them removed, the derm said eventually they'll fall off. But, I dont think i'd want growths near poop. the bacteria/growths/wiping/blood. I may be crazy, but, having them removed, although embaressing, may be healthy. And, aren't warts viral? so, they keep popping up? Can you call the office, and ask what you should do?

In fact, if possible, schedule an appointment for yourself first...or talk with the office over the phone, about how scared your son is & ways & means to mitigate that.

1) Warts are viral. Just like the common cold, or hiv. Viruses vary in strength, behavior, & effects. The treatments for these viruses are just as varied. Milder (weaker) forms get a foothold during times of stress, and then the immune system fights them off later when the stressing factor is removed. These tend to be the tiny warts on fingers, or plantars warts. Other warts are halophobic (can't tolerate salt), while some can't tolerate acids, or still others, bases. Hence the MYRIAD home treatments. Different things work for different types of mild infections. But just as one wouldn't treat hiv with chicken soup and sudafed, or vice versa the common cold with the coctails given to AIDS patients...warts need to be treated appropriately. Sometimes a Doc will tell you to wait a month or so... some require a strong acid... some require freezing... some require surgery. It all depends on the virus. Years of study and familiarity give dermatologists a glance-and-know capability the vast majority of the time. When it's unclear, they can take a swab & send it to the lab. So it's DEFINITELY doctor time.

2) Every wart *I* know of in the genital region, is caused by a STD. Note: I am sooooo not a dermatologist. STD's don't HAVE to be contracted through sex. Especially with warts...since they're constantly shedding. Using another person's towel or borrowing a pair of pj's, are two ways to pick up live virus. Another is a person can catch it while being born. BUT... the easiest way is through sexual contact. Ugh. If the dermatologist, after looking at the warts, determines they're of an STD-type...you may reeeeaally want to have a full panel done at your pediatrician's office. I'm also reeeeeaally hoping for all your sakes that this is not the case.

3) In the military we had the great misfortune to have to look at pictures of genital warts in some, shall we say, extreme cases. They specifically showed us those images to make our fear of turning out like those poor souls WAY worse then our fear of the Dr. or the embarrassment. No way would I ever suggest showing these to your baby. But if you need to strengthen your resolve at any point.. .use google image. None of the pictures are anywhere near as bad as what we were shown, but they're bad enough.

4) They may not even BE warts. Skin tags (also caused by a virus), look a lot like warts... as do certain yeast infections... as do certain other skin diseases.

So, doctor doctor doctor doctor.

Get him to a dermatologist NOW. Find out what they are and what is causing them, then determine a course of treatment. Don't use home remedies until you know what you are dealing with. And as for him being mortified and embarrased -- both you and your husband need a good long conversation with him about Dr/patient relationships and the fact we do things to maintain our health that we would otherwise consider embarrasing. Women don't get pap smears or have mammograms because they're fun, and guys aren't lining up for prostate exams! Your son is eight, you mucs teach him how to cope with the lack of dignity with many medical procedures. Good luck!

Warts are viral. Oil of oregano capsules might help as it is antiviral. For some reason when you focus mentally on being rid of them, that also works.

My husband had a wart on his finger that he was able to burn off with over the counter stuff, but I believe there are different types of warts, which require different types of treatment. Why don't you call and talk to the doctor or nurse and explain the situation that he is very embarrassed, maybe they can give him a little gas to relax him. I can imagine how embarrassed he is. You can also explain that it happens in some of the strangest places and we girls have to have them removed too.

When I got pregnant, I ended up with 10 warts on one foot. I started taking it and within 2 months, they were all gone. I continued to take it for another month and NONE of them have ever returned. He might also want to take vitamin A & D (in one capsule) internally....the oil capsules. He could probably take, depending on his age, 10,000iuA/1,000iuD every day or every other day. Warts are a pain in the, well you know. My son, who is 20, has them on his face. These things are prolific and I wouldn't take any chances with trying to get them to go away with something over the counter. Your son has a large infestation and needs to be seen by a doctor. Please take your son to a dermatologist.

hi It looks like no one told you about this amazingly simple cure :)

My son started getting warts on his hands when he was a wee baby, by the time he was 6 he had close to a hundred! nothing worked...they kept coming back and multiplying. one day a mother at the beach in florida noticed and excitedly told me about her daughters identical problem and the most simple solution.

I know this sounds crazy & your going to think I'm nuts. My daughter had warts on wrist, and we tried all kinds of creams and things to get rid of them.
