Son's First Haircut

Hi moms! It's time for my little guy to get a haircut. The question is do we do it ourselves or do we take him somewhere to have it cut. I don't want to traumatize him. But I'm not sure that my husband and I can give him a decent looking haircut. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

Hi S.,
We gave my son his first hair cut at home. My husband did it wiht the machine, it was really fun. My son was very calm and interested in the machine. He just got his third hair cut at home and still seems to enjoy them. THey might not look perfect, but my husband really enjoys doing it and messing around with it. He is even planning to give our son, male dog and himself the same type of buzz this summer. Yes, a little scary, but fun.
Good luck

Hi S.,

I also live in tustin and we take our son to Hair Bears in Tustin off newport. they are GREAT! my son was not scared and the best part of the whole experience they talked with him through the whole hair cut so he knew what to expect and was so happy. we had taken him to cool cuts for kids and it was terrible they just put a video on and hope that distracted him enough but he was scared and I ended up having to finnish the hair cut at home. (Which didnt turn out as well as I had hoped) So I really love Hairbears! 14181 Newport blvd.

We took our son to Rainbow Kids Hairstying. You can likely find a location near you on-line. They have little cars for them to sit in and will hand him a bucket of toys to keep him occupied while they do their thing. My son was fine with it until they got out the clippers to clean up around his ears... he didn't holler, but he wasn't happy about it. So the next time we take him, I'll be opting out of the "clean up." The other thing that surprised me was how grown up he looked afterwards... what happened to my little baby? I have a friend that tried to do it herself and ended up having to shave her son's head in the end because she accidently created a bald spot. That did it for my decision. Have fun!

Hello... I believe 1st haircut should be at a place so you can take cool pictures. :) Here is a place in Brea, CA. I heard they have other locations, but I'm not 100% sure. Call them and ask if they give 1st haircut certificates.. A lot of places do! Good Luck & take lots of pix!

We go to Gail at Hair Bears its on Red Hill... no maybe Newport. Sorry - I hate that. I'm pretty sure its Newport. Off the 5s, its to the right on the right hand side. Off the 5N, you make a left and its on the right hand side. You would miss it if you weren't looking for it. It is in a parking lot for an asian restaurant. Anyway, the kids sit in a fire truck and there is a basket of toys for them to play with. She always introduces before she starts like - ooh, feel the water, lets spray it. etc. Not as up to date as some places are but she cut my hair when I was a kid so that explains the dated look!
