I am a 41 year old woman who has more acne now than I had as a teen. Its horrible. Today, I woke up with a HUGE pimple on the side of my nose. I am one that does not leave them alone and picked at it. When I picked it a bunch of GREEN stuff came out. That has NEVER happened to me before. Normally it is whitish, but today it was definatly Green. I am assuming that this means infection, but it doesn't hurt, its not hot, not any redder than any normal pimple. Should I be concerned?

I am so sorry for the grossness of this post, but I am really freaked out right now.

What can I do next?

This could be a staph infection? It might be something to have looked at...sometimes infections on the nose can travel up to your brain. I had a pimple on my neck that popped and I had to go on antibiotics because of that danger

The green indicates infection for sure, so I would for sure sterilize it, put neosporin on it, and cover it. If it doesn't get better in a day or two, have it looked at.

I hear microdermabrasion is excellent for acne. Don't use the same products your teenager uses. Salycilic acid over benzoil peroxide. Neutregena makes a line that is helpful. They have a daily moisturizer with salycilic acid that helps tremendoulsy. You don't end up drying your skin out triggering excess oil production. ALso, exfoliate like your life depends on it! Buy an acne scrub and use a rouch wash cloth to slough away dead skin. All that dead skin causes clogged pores, blackheads and eventually whiteheads.

I have no idea about the green stuff, but I woulod certainly get that looked into.

You need to go to the doctor!!! Have it tested.
I had a zit well I thought it was but it turned up being MESA
you don't want to wait.
Get on meds asap if it is.
keep it covered in the mean time.
if it is a staph infection it is highly contagious

You could have cystic acne or rosacia. Go to a dermatologist.

Because its different from the "norm", I would try to get it checked out by an MD. My friend gets cold sore Herpes outbreaks only on her nose, never on her mouth like most people.

This sounds, to me, like you have developed what is called "cystic acne". My understanding is that this is hormonal - have you changed your birth control? When I went off the pill I develop Cystic acne, but when I am on the pill it goes away.

I would def follow up with your dr.

Have you been checked for food allergies or sensitivities? My husband (36) was super frustrated with still breaking out and got a blood test done. They said he had sensitivies to dairy and eggs. He notices when he cuts the eggs out he doesn't break out anymore. It's been an interesting change for our family but he is much happier. Sorry, this doesn't really answer your question but just a suggestion.
