Spots and Fever

Is it common to get spots with a fever? My toddler (two years on Friday!!) has a low temp around 100 and is covered in tiny red spots. They are not raised bumps or welts...just tiny pin sized spots. They don't itch and she does not seem to be in any discomfort or pain. I don't feel like it is necessary to take her in to the doctor just yet, but I thought I would ask if anyone has seen this in their kiddos before.
Thanks in advance!

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the responses! We ended up taking our daughter in to the doctor this evening anyway. The doctor said it was a virus and that rashes like hers are very common with viral infections and that it was nothing to be concerned about. Her fever had gone up to 102 by the time we had gotten home so we gave her some children's Motrin and put her to bed...which is all we can do for now, poor baby. Thanks again to everyone who responded!

Its probably "Roseola". Don't think that its spelled right. I would would take you toddler in just incase. The spots show up after a fever. My son has had this.

When my kids were babies or young toddlers, and if they had been sick with a fever.... they got what my Doctor said is a "viral rash"... which is a sort of rash they get when the virus is leaving the body... in my kids cases.... it did not itch or cause any irritation... but it came out if they had had a fever when sick.

But you might want to check with your Doctor.

It sounds like Roseola. Google it and see if the pictures looks like what is on your daughter. My kids both had it, and the doctor did nothing. It's a virus, and goes away in a few days.

My son recently had scarlet fever. Have a look inside her mouth and see if her tongue is redder than usual and there is white on it as well. He had spots the same as what you are describing.
They give antibiotics for it and the child just gets better. The fever is usually not very high around 101F. It is worth checking up. Scarlet Fever is strep of the skin.

Could be roseola - usually fever & then when it breaks, spots. THEN the doc can say it was roseola. My kids all had that, and it didn't seem to be any big deal - but it is weird and a little scary looking. I would give nurse a call to be sure.

Sorry. Take hime to the doctor and get blood work done on him. pin head little red dots on him could mean that he low on platelets. If all is ok after the blood test GREAT but DO check him out. Mt husband had leukemia and he gets these spots when his platelets are low.

Strep can cause this to happen and is very very bad. Please take your child to the Dr. soon.

When my daughter had these symptoms, it turned out to be scarlatina (sp?), and she was prescribed an antibiotic. Call your doctor's office and see what they suggest. Hope this helps!

My son got this. I remember it being a form of Roseola. Not uncommon and he wasn't treated for it. Our doctor said it would go away on its own and it did.

If it doesn't go away soon nor does the fever, I would get the little one to a doctor just to make sure. Better safe than sorry.
Take care.

Definitely take her to the doctor! A friend of mine's little boy had a fever with a rash and he ended up having scarlet fever, which is strep throat with a rash. Better safe than sorry, and I hope she feels better soon :)

My daughter had similar awhile ago. It was scarlett fever. Which I know sounds kind of scary and from the middle ages or something lol. But it is just actually strep with a rash. She did not have signs of a sore throat or anything. Just the fever, rash, and a strawberry tongue. You would probably want to take to the doctor though to be sure and get something for it if it is strep.
