What do you have and do you just love it?

Gas costs less. I like the ceramic glass top but it's pricier.

TIA

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Soooo....DH and I have tossed it around and have looked at what's out there...lots of nice stove tops. We are going with the ceramic top. The updated stove top w/ 5 burners was very tempting, shoot I could warm a tortilla right on the burner! But, our reasons are similar to one of the other mamas, our family has allergy issues and RAD in the cool months. We also rather not worry about gas leaks.

Thanks for the input mamas! Now off to choose a counter top.

I've had a white glass top for about 1 1/2 years and like how easy it is to keep clean, HOWEVER, I find that I do have to clean it frequently because residue shows up very easily on a white glass top! Next time, I will outfit my kitchen with black appliances and a BLACK glass top!

I've had all 3 before, and gas is the best! It's easier to control the temperature and most new gas cooktops are sealed so cleanup is really fast.
The glass-top was the worst. If you forgot to clean the stove off once you would end up with baked on food that was impossible to get off. They give you special cleaners, but the don't work. I hated my glass-top and am so glad to be rid of it.

I'll be the odd gal out as I love my glass cooktop and find it far easier to clean than the old solid burners that I had. I do think it may have to do with the age, as I know some of the earlier glass tops did scratch, etc easily. I just wipe my down everynite after dinner and a few times a week I use a glass cleaning wipe. You do need to be careful if you are cooking with sugar as it can leave permanent marks on the cooktop if it boils over.

The reason I prefer the glass to gas is that I have lots of allergies and gas is not recommended in homes with children or adults that have allergies (or chemical sensitivities), especially asthma. You'll find the medical research actually has mixed views, BUT I tend to err on the side of caution and the reports indicate the importance of proper ventilation when cooking, so you might want to consider upgrading your ventilation (and make sure it vents outside) if you're installing a gas cooktop.

I totally agree with all the others that in terms of cooking and controlling heat, you can't beat the gas.

I can't comment on gas as I have never owned one and have only cooked on them once or twice.

However, I've had the regular electric and the ceramic top. I LOVE the ceramic top. It's so much easier to clean. No one thinks they will boil anything over but you know, everyone does at some point especially with little ones to distract you. When you boil over with a traditonal electric it spills into the drip pans whic aren't hard to clean if you do it right away BUT, if and when it goes through the hole in the drip pan you have to lift the entire oven top up and clean it out. With the ceramic top as soon as the burners are cooled off enough (the indicator light goes off when they are cool enough) then you just spray a mild cleaner and wipe off. SO EASY! I have also found that my pans don't weeble wobble on the burners of the ceramic top. ONce you pull the burner out of the other kind to clean the drip pan they NEVER go back in the right way and get bent.

Again, I LOVE THE CERAMIC TOP. I've never had a gas so maybe it is better but out of the two electric, the ceramic top is best.

I also have a glass top...I hate it!!! They look fine when they are not used and clean, but even water on them burns and leaves a mark...they are a pain in the butt!!! I will definitely go for gas next time.

Well, obviously gas is the best, as that's what everyone's said. I wanted to concur with the other ladies about the glass top- I detest mine. Can't keep it clean. You clean it perfectly and two seconds later there's dust or a smudge- very frustrating! I'm not sure what else is available, but I would get anything other than clear glass. I'm thinking of getting the etching spray to make it not shiny and clear but frosted. Has anyone ever done that? I've seen it done in craft projects.

I agree with the other moms. Gas is the best. I unfortunately have the glass top. To top it off, it is black. It is pretty but it is a pain in the you know what to keep clean. And you have to be very careful to not drop anything on it or else you might chip it especially on the edges. Gas is by far the winner of the two!

I went from always having either glass top or regular electric to gas in our new home and it has cut my cook time in half....small learning curve, but I am proud to say I have not burned any food up with my gas range!!! I love it! Good luck!

Gas. You never see Bobby Flay or the Iron Chefs cooking with anything else and there's a good reason. Gas is the best!

I vote gas also. The ceramic top looks nice but it's a PAIN to maintain. It scratches and food can get baked on pretty easily. I'll never have it again. Gas heats and cools faster and best of all it's cheaper!!

Gas. No question about it. The glass cooktops start out well but they cannot be maintained that way if you do any regular cooking. Electric is okay but I didn't like it.

Gas is the ONLY way...you can control cooking your food much easier...With electric/glass food burns quicker because it's harder to gauge the temperature.

Gas!!
I was rather afraid of it when we first moved into our home. I didn't cook for a month or so. Then I dared myself & it's the best thing!! My girls know not to come near the stove top when I'm cooking & normally I cook on the back grills when I just have one or two pots going.

One time I spilt a bottle of water on it & it started making a clicking noise. Immediately I called TXU & they just said that's what it does to dry out. Completely freaked me out though!
But the cooking time is less & the grills cool down immediately after they are turned off.
