Stroller for a Newborn and a Toddler?

I wanted to inquire about the types of stroller that all you mamas use out there that have a newborn/infant and a toddler. Do you prefer a double stroller (side by side or front and back)? I am just doing some way flash forward thinking here. We are trying for baby #2 soon and we have a soon to be one year old boy. By the time new baby is born my son will probably be almost 2 (if all goes well as planned). I am sure my son will still need a stroller by 2 years old and I don't think I want to push two separate strollers or wear my newborn in a Baby Bjorn and push my son in his stroller.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

The Phil & Teds strollers are great for toddler/newborns and toddler/preschoolers. I would highly recommend them. If you can't afford the price tag, look on craigslist - you can find them for half price if you really search.

well when I had a new born and a two year old I liked the double stroller (front in back) the side by side ones are cool but when you are in a tight space like isles in the mall they are a pain. And if you go on walks with your friends in a side by side you really can't both fit on the side walk. So that is why I like front and back.

Depends on your needs.

I had 3 in 4 years and have a plethora of strollers in the garage! When I had my second my first was 20 months, but MOST of the time, he walked and I carried the baby either in the carseat or in a carrier (sling, bjorn). If we were going for a walk, then I used my side by side Schwinn jogger... I like that it has a swivel front wheel so I can literally push it with 2 bigger kids in it with one hand.

Once I had the third my other two were 3 and almost 2 and I bought a Sit and Stand (used for $50). My third was born here in the winter so I had to have a way to move her in the car seat... and still get a 3 year old and 2 year old where we needed to go. I could click the baby in, sit the 2 year old and then the 3 year old would stand (so the two older where in a place made for just one, but it worked fine) and I could push all 3 in and out of buildings when it was 30 below!

I'd focus on what you are planning to use it for, and decide based on that. It was nice to have the sit and stand because it is narrow and I could easily push it at the mall or zoo without feeling like I was taking up a ton of space. But, I LOVE how easy the walking/running stroller is to push with that swivel wheel in the front.

Good luck!
Jessica

I'm in the same boat & pretty much decided on the joovy caboose or the phil n teds vibe. Though I do plan to carry the baby just cause it'll be easier & plan on putting off purchasing a double stroller for as long as possible.
Guess it all depends ok what & where you use it.

It depends on your price range. My son will be 19 months old when my daughter is born, and we looked into all kinds of strollers, but really couldn't afford to spend more than $300 on a new stroller. A lot of the ones people are recommending to you are above that, and they may be superior to what we found - I'm not sure.

In the end, my husband and I decided on the Combi Sport Twin, which is a light-weight and narrow side-by-side. We have a Graco pumpkin seat that fits in one of the seats, which is a feature I really wanted, and it runs about $229, but we are going to buy it with our credit card rewards points, so it won't cost us anything. I was also interested in a tandem (front-to-back) stroller, and was able to find a Kolcraft Contours Options stroller on Craigslist for less than $100. We haven't used it with two babies yet, but we love all of the features. It is quite heavy, which the Combi was not, but it has so many different options and fits nicely on the sidewalk for when we're walking the dogs. Good luck!

Hands down a side by side double stroller. So much easier to manuver...I recommend the combi side by side.

The front back ones are such a pain to move, the front seat is not tall enough to hold the toddlers head and there is no way a child could sleep in a front seat. The back seat is the only one that really can hold a sleeping child, but then it blocks the basket. Side by side both can recline and sleep. Plus, the front/back is easier to push when the lighter child is in the front, but it is not designed to work that way. I have 4 kids and it took me until the last two to figure this out. Too bad I didn't the first time.

The side by side is a little hard in stores with clothing racks all over the place...but it fits through all doorways and works well everywhere else. I highly recommend one.

The combi side by side is so light weight and is easy to push. It also folds up so small.

I bought a Phil and Ted when I had my first, to use as our daily walking stroller. I am now using it with a baby and a toddler, and I am so happy about my purchase. Love it, and love that it has a single foot-print, super handy for maneuvering bathrooms!

Not sure I'd buy one unless I used it as a single first, as they are expensive.

I also baby-carrier, but I do like having the option of them both being in the stroller, especially when out on long day trips. Carrying gets to be too much sometimes, and sometimes you literally just need a place to put the baby!

The Baby Jogger City Select Stroller with 2nd Seat allows both babies to recline fully and face you or away from you. My Graco only allows the rear baby to recline fully and the front will not even support the older babies legs. A little pricey but I plan on buying it for the babies I take care of because it's so versatile.
