Suggested Daycare near Carrollton

My daughter is 7mo old. She is currently being watched by her nanny who brings her own daughter (16mos old) to our house.

We're concerned that the time is not being divided correctly and last night we came home to a ridiculous diaper rash. And my mom has gone to my house on several occasions and the nanny is always on the phone. To top that, she had the oddasity to ask if we're interested in letting our weekly housekeeper go and allow her to clean our house for extra money? Hello - she's supposed to be caring for my child!!! As if I'm going to pay her during her childcare hours to clean my house. I'm also not sure that Madison gets enough "activity time". She doesn't go for walks on the stroller b/c she can't take both girls, etc...

So you get the point? Things are just not working out. We pay her $900/mo which is reasonable for us and great for her b/c she gets to bring her daughter. But I'm willing to pay more and am tossed on whether daycare or montessori school is the answer.

I'm interviewing Primrose in Castle Hills next week as well as Creme de la Creme.

Anyone have experiences w/ either of these? What are their prices like and should I get the "daycare is bad" think out of my head?

Am I overreacting about the nanny's actions?

I'm a stressed out mom about this. I barely slept last night. Thanks for any help!!!

What can I do next?

Hi A.,

I would recommend Parker Chase, also. My son was there from 5 months to almost 2 and we loved it. I pulled him in out in January only because he was old enough to attend the same school my daughter attends and it would be easier on us to have 1 drop-off and pick-up.

For the summer, I will be sending him back to Parker Chase since his current school doesn't have anything extraordinary to offer for his age group.

My daughter attended Primrose of Castle Hills from January 2002 to August 2004. We pulled her out of there because we were not that happy anymore. Our biggest concern was teacher turnover. When I was pregnant with my son, we toured them again in late 2005. They seemed like they were working on their teacher turnover issues, but had not solved them yet. When I specifically asked how long the teachers in the infant room had been there, I got an answer that ranged between 2 weeks to 2 months. At Parker Chase, all of the teachers have been there for a long time.

I hope this helps.

It definetly sounds like you need to move on to a new childcare situation. Always trust your instincts until you feel really comfortable with a situation. My sisters children have all gone to an in home daycare in carrollton and it is an awesome enviroment. The provider's name is Nikki Burt and I can get you her phone number if you might be interested. She lives at Hebron and josey lane in Carrollton and she usually has about 5 to six kids, but she will be having about four openings coming up really soon, because most of her kids are now headed to kindergarden(all of those leaving have been there since they were infants). I think she still has a toddler and an infant that will be staying. She charges around $160 a week and you just have to provide diapers. If you are interested or have more questions, let me know!

I am so sorry that you're having this experience! There is nothing more stressful than having a less than desireable day care situation. You are right to trust your instincts! It sounds like your "nanny" really just wants an "easy job". I don't personally know of any daycares in carrolton as I live in Mckinney but I do know that I would choose a larger day care over having a nanny in my home. The reason being is that with a private person there are no checks and balances. The nanny has no one to hold her accountable. I am a firm believer that until a child can speak for himself that they should be in a larger daycare with lots of employees and parents who come and go all day long. I have heard too many stories of little ones being hurt by nannies that are being abusive and it scares me. I would also go with a daycare that offers a website that you can log into and see your child's room and check on them anytime you like. I would interview alot of different places, go during different times of the day. See how they handle feeding times, nap time and diaper changing. What is their sick policy? Do the employees know CPR and First Aid? Do they have CEU's ? What is their discipline policy? Do they have a curriculum that they follow and what age do they start? Hope this helps. you can also get onto the internet and look for violations etc... It's all public info. Good Luck!!

It is unfortunate what you are going through.
Have you considered home-care?

I had a friend interview both Primrose locations in Carrollton (the one on hebron and the castle hills one) and wasn't impressed with either. However, she was VERY impressed with the Primrose in Coppell.

My son goes to Parker Chase in Carrollton and we LOVE them.

Before he was at PC, he was in in home day care (in Carrollton) which was FABULOUS. I would suggest in home for a 7 month old. Let me know if you're interested in talking to my son's previous in home provider...
