First question is why do you feel the need to give pediasure? What do you feel he might not be getting.

Look through the ingredients and see if this is what you want him to have. Sugar is the second ingredient . There's 18 grams in 8 ozs
pediasure has 2.2g of sugar in each ounceto compare, coke has 3.25g in each ounce. There are really good protein powders on the market if that is your concern. Or FRESH fruit smoothies (no Juice - too much sugar) you can blend for whole nutrition and blend in some celery or spinach and he won't taste it but get fiber and nutrtion.

Here are the ingredients for the vanilla pediasure
WATER, SUGAR (SUCROSE), CORN MALTODEXTRIN, MILK PROTEIN CONCENTRATE, HIGH OLEIC SAFFLOWER OIL, SOY OIL, WHEY PROTEIN CONCENTRATE, MEDIUM-CHAIN TRIGLYCERIDES; LESS THAN 0.5% OF: SOY PROTEIN ISOLATE, SHORT-CHAIN FRUCTOOLIGOSACCHARIDES, NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL FLAVORS, CELLULOSE GEL, MAGNESIUM PHOSPHATE, POTASSIUM CITRATE, POTASSIUM CHLORIDE, CALCIUM PHOSPHATE, CALCIUM CARBONATE, POTASSIUM PHOSPHATE, SALT (SODIUM CHLORIDE), CELLULOSE GUM, CHOLINE CHLORIDE, SOY LECITHIN, MONOGLYCERIDES, C. COHNII OIL, ASCORBIC ACID, m-INOSITOL, POTASSIUM HYDROXIDE, CARRAGEENAN, TAURINE, FERROUS SULFATE, dl-ALPHA-TOCOPHERYL ACETATE, L-CARNITINE, ZINC SULFATE, CALCIUM PANTOTHENATE, NIACINAMIDE, MANGANESE SULFATE, THIAMINE CHLORIDE HYDROCHLORIDE, PYRIDOXINE HYDROCHLORIDE, RIBOFLAVIN, CUPRIC SULFATE, VITAMIN A PALMITATE, FOLIC ACID, CHROMIUM CHLORIDE, BIOTIN, POTASSIUM IODIDE, SODIUM SELENATE, SODIUM MOLYBDATE, PHYLLOQUINONE, CYANOCOBALAMIN, AND VITAMIN D3.

Please do not feed your baby that regularly. It is NOT healthy as proven by the ingredient list below. That drink has a specific purpose, to hydrate kids when they are sick and will not drink enough water. Your son should not eat or drink anything with all those sugars and chemicals, read all labels of what you feed him and stick with things you recognize and where sugar and cornsyrup are not listed at all.
A great thing for you to do would be spend a little time online researching nutrition and why food additives are so dangerous for little kids especially. Below is an article about pesticides being linked to ADHD. I know many people who beleive that the chemicals and preservatives in most processed foods are causing or contributing to the high rate of ADD/ADHD and autism in our country. The best thing you can do is educate yourself a little and you would not need to ask this question in the first place. Real food is always better than something with an ingredient list like that, yikes!

If your child is healthy, you don't give him Pedisure. Pedisure is for kids with various medical conditions who can not eat the appropriate foods in appropriate quantities to grow well. If your child is healthy, you are giving him a high calorie food for no reason you can make him fat and damage his health.

Hello P., as the mother of 5 and the grandmothe of several I want to give my 2 cents worth of thought on your question.
If you are giving your child several glasses of water each day, along with milk and juice then he should be just fine with out Pediasure. We only have used that when a child was ill . I know that even our 1 year old will carry around a sippy cup of water when she is playing and we leave one near her so she can drink as she needs to. But if you are concerned then talk to her doctor for peace of mind.

I think some people are confusting Pediasure with Pedialyte. Pediasure is a supplement drink but is really designed to be a meal replacement. Pediasure is for children who cannot or will not eat regular food or who need extra help gianing weight. Pediasure and other formulas like it can be a lifesaver but 8 oz. of Pediasure have 250 calories. If your 22 month old does not need the extra calories it will not help him. The vitamins and minerals added are because many children on Pediasure are not eating anything else. My daughter was on Pediasure and is now on a higher calorie formula because of an eating aversion and being underweight. My four other children are given a balanced diet and none seem to have any troubles. Most toddlers can get all the vitamins and minerals they need from a regualr diet. I love Dr. Sears the family Nutrition Book for ideas about what kids of different ages need.
