I have never cooked sweet potatoes in my life, as I am not a big fan. However, my doctor recommended them for hormonal balancing and my fam is begging me to make them. What can I do with them to make them taste good enough for me to eat?!

Thanks moms!

We make fries a lot too.

I have a sweet recipe: Bake in the oven until just soft, thenpeel and dice/cube...then place in skillet on stove and warm together the following: a lil' brown sugar, butter, 1 can crushed pineapple, walnuts, and maple syrup.

Here is my favorite sweet potato recipe.
Sweet potato with apple and cinnamon

1 large sweet potato (about 8 ounces after cut up)
2 apples (about 4 ounces after cut up)
cinnamon (as much as you like)

Peel and cut the sweet potato into 1 inch by 1/2 inch pieces (about)
Peel and cut the apples into small little chunks.
Put the sweet potato and apple into a saucepan and add enough boiled water to cover 1/3 of the sweet potato and apple.
Cover the saucepan and cook over medium heat for about 20 minutes. You will need to stir it every 5 minutes so that it cooks evenly. You are actually boiling what is in the water and steaming the rest that is above the water at the same time. After 10 minutes of cooking stir in the cinnamon. It's okay if the sweet potato and apple starts to fall apart, but you should still have pretty big chunks of sweet potato and apple left as well. It is done once it thickens up. Take it off the heat and let it cool down. Chill in the fridge until cold. You can eat it as is after that. It is very kid friendly. My 2 year old loves this recipe. Or you can top it with some raisins, plain yogurt, mandarin oranges, almond slices, and little chunks of your favorite soft, sweet cheese to turn it into a delicious dessert.

We buy the frozen "sweet potatoe fries" and oven bake them. They are great with a dipping sauce of low-fat sour cream and brown sugar! 1 T of sour cream with 1 teaspoon of brown sugar has the sweet and savory mix... yum!!

I don't like them boiled either. I roast them instead, just place them in the oven as they are at 400 F for about 45 min to an hour.

We will eat them roasted and I also puree the leftovers with some water and freeze them in ice cube trays. I then add cubes of sweet potato puree to things like Mac'n'Cheese and tomato sauce - not enough to taste it, just a bit to give it some substance and a serving of veggies. (works great with pumpkin too!)

Good luck.

Bake them wrapped in Tin Foil in the Oven or on a Grill (450-500 degrees) until they are "mushy" when you squeeze them with tongs. In the oven - put them in a Baking Pan so their juices don't spill to the bottom of the oven.

Then unwrap them slice down the middle, pull the pulp away from the skin (just like with a regular potato) add butter and brown sugar and mix together.

It will taste more like candy/dessert than a potato

well, you can peel them and mash them like mashed potatoes. You can bake them like a backed potato and you can make them into a pie, like pumpkin pie.....

I make them for Thanksgiving, I peel them, cut them into large chunks, cook them until they are done......then I put them in a dish, put in some butter, brown sugar and cover them with marshmallows......Not the healthiest dish in the world, but everyone loves them!!!

Good luck and I hope you get to feeling better.

I'm not a sweet potato fan either, but I had a really great dish at Thanksgiving. Standard mashed sweet potatos with butter on the bottom and then a "streusal" for the top. Brown sugar, pecans and butter. It was delicioso! Not particularly healthy because it had a ton, ton, ton of butter. But I ate a full serving of sweet potatos for the first time in my life. Wait... I do like sweet potato fries. There are some recipes listed by other posters.

I made these Sweet Potato Oven Fries a few weeks ago and LOVED them. http://www.americastestkitchentv.com/recipes/login.asp?re...=

That being said, I am not a big fan of peeling sweet potatoes, so I am hoping to be able to find some peeled, frozen ones for the future, as well as recipes that don't require me to peel them (not sure if that's possible.)

Quick and easy- pierce the sweet potato in several places with a fork. Then stick in the microwave for 5-10 mins depending on size. Just make sure it is pierced well or it can explode, not a fun mess to clean. I haven't done, but have seen the results. Sometimes it helps to take them out and turn them once or twice. When they are done slice in half with a knife and top with a little bit of butter and brown sugar.

You can also do bakes fries. Peel and slice the potatoes into whatever size pieces you want. Then mix a little olive oil with salt/spices of your choosing. You can either put everything in a bag or bowl to mix or just drizzle over the sliced potatoes on a tray and bake at 350 until done. 15-20 mins

I peel them, cube them, then saute them in a little olive oil with cajun spice - they're addicting like this if you like spicy food, my 8 year old will eat cups of them cooked like this.

Sweet potato's are best plain. They have a natural sweetness and texture that doesn't need any extra's.
Just bake them like you would regular potato's.
