Wondering if anyone has found a good swim lesson program in the Denver area? I have a 14 month old that loves the water and we want to get into some classes during the summer.

What can I do next?

Hi T.

I would go to the YMCA. They have great lessons and also have the new lessons for survival that is really important. A few of my friends have put their kids in that class and although it is hard at first to watch all the kids now know how to float and tread incase they ever find themselves in a situation in the pool. You never know. I cant think of the name but I know if you call they will tell you all about it. We go to the Y here in Arvada and they are great!

We live in Englewood and my 9 month old and I are taking classes at the Englewood Rec Center. It's been a good experience!

Try your local YMCA or recreation center.
I can say at that age they don't do much but get a comfort zone for the water. My pediatricians said until they are 5 and can retain the instructions thorougly and remember to relax if in a situation that swim lessons are more about comfort in the water then learning to swim. I can say here in Broomfield though they have great classes at the Bay in the summer.
Also I have heard that there is that Infant Aqua safety course, which is $500, but heard infants can learn to swim as it is one on one. Not sure if that is true, but heard good things about them learning quickly.
I found the recreation center to always have what I was looking for here in Broomfield.

We did ISR (Infant Swim Resource) lessons when my daughter was 7 months and again at 16 months. It is an amazing program. It teaches the child survival techniques. My now 18 month old can swim, flip over and float (to catch her breath), flip back over and swim. She will do this sequence until she reaches a wall or safety.
Check out www.infantswim.com and watch the video.

I saw the video and I was amazed. I couldn't believe that it would work but it does!

Have you looked into Starfish Swim School? We have been taking our 3 year old for the past year & he absolutely loves it! His skills have really improved since starting the class, I only wish we would have started sooner. They have classes for infants to swim with the parents & the kids look so comfortable in the water they don't even mind putting their head under water, which took us forever to get our 3 year old comfortable with. Their prices are about average for the area, $14/session for a 30-minute session once/week.

Here is a link to their website:

Good Luck!

I can't say enough good things about Starfish Swim School. I have followed them all around the South metro area for 4 yrs now. I have a 6yr old and a 4 yr old that are excellent swimmers because of them. The 6 yr old began at 2 1/2 yrs and the 4 yr old began at 9 mos. The younger one is amazing at such a young age. I don't even need to get in the water anymore, just keep a watchful eye from the side (mainly watching for other less-advanced swimmers that may accidentally use one of my girls as a flotation device). Their web site is www.swimdenver.com.
