Swimming Lessons in Towson Area

Hi all! My DD is 8 months old and I would love to get her into swimming lessons. I know that I love swimming and she has a ball in the bath. She was kicking and splashing and having soo much fun last night, I almost felt guilty taking her out!
I have priced Kid's First Swim club. They charge $78 for a 6 week session (6--1/2 hour lessons of Mommy & Me). I was wondering how that compares in price to other places. I am located near Towson, so places in Baltimore County would be helpful. Thanks.

What can I do next?

Meadowbrook has an awesome pool, with a beach area, shade, huge kiddie pool, and the lessons are very good, quality and reasonable-- $50 for 6 weeks maybe?

The downside-- they may have the best pool, but they have the smallest, smelliest locker room!

The Towson YMCA has swimming lessons and for the little ones I think it is similar to Kid's First (ie. mommy and me mixing skills and games) I am a member at the Y but chose to go to Kids First with my daughter for her swimming because the pool at Kids First is significantly warmer and it uses different chemicals. The water at Kids First tastes kind of salty and not much like chlorine. I used to take water aerobics at the Y and hours later, even after showering I'd still smell like chlorine, and the Y pool (although it is heated) was cold! I took my daughter there for a family swim recently and her teeth were chattering and she was visibly shivering within a few minutes and she wanted to get out even though she loves the water. I do know the prices are better at the Y but I weighed the benefits and thought that we'd get more for our money at Kids First. Good luck.

A little about the Kid's First Swim - I take my daughters to the one in Columbia and we love it! We had swimming lessons at another pool before and it didn't even compare to the quality of the ones at Kids first swim. I love the structure of their swimming program and they seem to only hire very qualified, enthusiastic teachers.
Also if you book 5 or more 6 week sessions in advance you get a 20% discount on the price (about $62 per 6 weeks) and if you book 10 or more sessions you get a 33% discount ($52 per 6 weeks).

Hi J., I'm not sure if you are working on mondays or looking for a saturday class, but Megan Rich PT in Timonium has a Aqua Baby class at 10 on mondays. They also have one on most saturday mornings. classes are 45min to an hour and there are no committments. You do a lot of the baby games with some added exercises for mom. If you are interested let me know and I will pass the contact info on for the instructor. I have also taken mommy and me at Kidsfirst in Cockeysville and found the pool to be a bit gross, and at the MAC in Timonium, but they don't have summer classes.

Hi, J. - Have you checked the "Y" in Towson? My sister-in-law teaches swimming there, but I don't know about rates & fees. N. B.

I am currently taking my 7 month old daughter to Kids First in Perry Hall and it is really great. We are in our second session now. I looked around a little and the only other thing close I found was the YMCA and they charge about $110 for an 8 week session. I have friends who are doing that and they say that the water is cold and they aren't especially baby friendly, so not sure if I would recommend that. It really is a good time, good luck!
