Symphony & Fireworks (Missing Anything?)

Heading to the park for the symphony followed by fireworks tonight with hubs and DS (3). I'm packing the stroller as we will likely have a long haul to the parking spot, gazpacho, pita chips, peanuts, craisins, bubbles, bug spray, water and a blanket. Am I forgetting anything? We've been telling DS what fireworks are like, so I hope he's prepped for it.

Thanks and happy early 4th,
F. B.

So What Happened?

It was awesome. Parking was a nightmare, we were an hour and a half late, we couldn't see much less hear the symphony, but a girlfriend brought wine, DS was well behaved. The fireworks were obstructed by trees, but the show was good and long. The weather couldn't have been more agreeable, and there were no bugs.

Thanks for all your tips.

Please be prepared for him to hate fireworks. He might love them completely too but most little kids hate them and are terrified.

Just be aware that you might have to put him in the stroller and take a walk quickly away from the show. Also, you might park where you can leave.

Just be prepared to leave if your kids freak out.

If they have never experienced them close up, the ground shakes, the booms are incredibly loud. The lights look like they are falling from the sky towards you.

We had very good friends that attended with us one year and their daughter was about 4.. and incidentally a VERY loud child. She completely lost it when the fireworks began.. They tried and tried to calm her, but she was in no way able to handle it.

We were all astounded by her reaction. Our daughter LOVED fireworks. The louder the better.

Ear plugs!
We put ear plugs in our kids' ears for live concerts and fireworks, until probably age 4 or so.

the maryland symphony orchestra sets up on the antietam battlefield every 4th of july weekend, and does the 1812 overture complete with live cannons. awesome fireworks. much fun for all.
well, not me. the last time i went my now-23 year old was about 2. the crowds, noise and mayhem were enough for me. i can just see the tops of the fireworks from my pool deck, so that's as close as i get any more.
around your boy's age is when mine started to like fireworks and parades. i'm glad to see you had fun. the bugs are a HUGE issue at antietam.

We went up to the lake for fireworks last night and we will go to the city park for fireworks tonight. We will ride our bikes tonight to avoid the traffic/parking problems. We use the bike trailer for carrying chairs, snacks, bug spray and a soccer ball.
