I treat my children for everything first chiropractically. I have seen many very sick kids get well, including my own who was seriously chronically ill. I have worked as a chiropractic assistant for almost nine years and it is amazing what I have witnessed! My DC has a gift for helping children! I love my job and am grateful for his role in making my chronically ill baby girl healthy!

I suggest you look into http://www.centerforintegralhealth.com/
we took our son there from 6mns on, & had a great experience for all his growing years, he is well into his 20s now. There was a great respect for his body healing in a more natural way. Dr. Shepperd has been our main doctor, a very knowledgeable and thoughtful man.

If your naturalpath is comfortable with pediatrics and if your naturalpath is worth their salt...they will be comfortable telling you when an allopathic pediatrician is called for. Ultimately, use common sense and critical thinking and make the appropriate choice for which "tool" is best for any given "job".

I think it's fine to have a nd but you still need a regular doctor as well. I mean one of the reasons that babies don't die as often as they did way back when and so many scary illnesses are now under control or are almost wiped out is because of all new meds and information doc's have. Yes I do believe there are lots of natural vitamins, herbs and treatments like chiropractics that can treat and heal you but there are other times when kids down right need antibiotics. Or I remember once when my 3 year old had a bad head cold and was complaining about her head hurting. I gave her some childrens tylenol for her headache and although she still had a cough and a stuffy noise she started playing again and said her head had stopped pounding. I'm so glad we have that type of meds to help when they really need it. So again I'm all for all the natural cures but just keep another doc on hand just incase. And your nd should know when to advise you to take your kid into another doc if he thinks it's something that needs actual meds.

awesome! I hope to become an ND and DC ( chiro) in a few years! I actually have never taken my daughter to an ND ( cant afford it at the moment) but i have taken her to my chiro. My daughter is the healthiest child I know. Never had an antibiotic/ear infection/ respiratory infection...with anything you should always seek a second opinion, especially if you are not comfortable with a diagnosis. Just so you are aware NDs go through as much education as a MD with classes on natural solutions to illness where and MD would be taking classes on pharmacological solutions. There are some NDs that simply go to an online school and call themselves NDs. They are NOT NDS! problem is that Illinois doesnt license them yet so they are not regulated so any one can claim they are one at this point. Make sure they were educated in one of the 7 North American Universities that have been licensed to train NDs.

I use a pediatrician to keep records on my children...god forbid anything happens where I'd need traditional western care. They get some vax and I tend to ignore any suggestions for things I take care of at home.

My sons (2 1/2 years and 7 months) see a chiropractor regularly for health.

I have done lots of research and surrounded myself with people who are knowledgeable about alternative treatments and keep an arsenal of herbal stuff in my medicine cabinet for everything...colds, flus, allergies, vitamins, tummy, fevers, ear aches, etc. There is a TON out there that you can do behind the scenes without paying for a natural doctor.

Get your kiddos on a good vitamin regimen (the younger one not yet obviously). My 2 year old takes a good multivitamin, fish oil supplements, and an immune boosting tonic (astragalus, etc) that are all designed for kids and from reliable companies. I switch him to echinacea periodically.

Yesterday he just got through a nasty stomach bug, so today we will try and get some probiotics in him as much as possible.

I would also like to pursue a natural doctor....wish there was one that did both near me! My dogs vet does both wester and non-western treatments, wish she was my pediatrician!

You can message me if you want a list of the stuff I use...I use my midwife as a sounding board and found a great natural families local group who have so much info that I NEVER call my doc! I just go in for well baby visits and for a few vax and tell them everything is fine! :)
