Tandem Stroller Suggestions

I have a 13 month old son and an almost 4 year old daughter...thinking about number three but not sure. Right now most of our strollering is to the grocery store across the street and my daughters activites (also across the street). This summer will be festivals, fairs and airline travel. So I need one that would be good on pavement, grass (sometimes snow in the winter) and durable for gate checking.

Debating on side by side versus tandem but most of the side by sides I've seen in action, seem kind of bulky. Especially in store bathrooms, they seem to be hard to deal with although if a place has a family bathroom I try to use it. Tandems seem a little easier to deal with, especially folding up. I guess, too, hopefully they will fold small enough to fit in trunk of our Jetta?

Also debating sit & stand style versus two actual seats. I think my daughter would be ok with the little sit & stand seats but when we're visitng families and going places, an actual chair might be better when she's real tired.

Last, but not least, if it could accomidate a carseat (just in case number three comes along=), that would be great.

Our curring travel system is a 4 year graco travel lite, I think, which is still going strong but I would like a stroller that can deal with both kids. It would be great to find one at or under $2oo, but I know that might be asking a lot.

Any ideas, suggestions, experience would be great. Thanks!

What can I do next?

I just got the Kolcraft Contours Options II tandem stroller unlike the previous poster the Options II does have childs cup holders as well as an IPod holder (don't have an IPod so this is something I won't be using). I love it. I love that it has so many different seating options. It is heavy, most double strollers are and as previous poster mentioned it if rather large to store and it also takes up a good chunk of the cargo area of my Land Rover.I also looked at the new Graco version of the sit n stand and it took three of us at Babies R Us to get it unfolded and it just seemed flimsy kinda disapointed as I have a Graco single stroller and love it. I looked at the Sit-n-Stands but knowing that my oldest would not like standing I decided that the Contour was the best option.

My daughter, was almost 4 years old when my son was born.
I never used a tandem or side by side stroller.
By that age, my daughter was done with strollers and walked. If she needed to rest, then we did.
My daughter was at that age, very tall as well. She didn't want to use strollers.
So just conveying what occurred in my situation, per my daughter who was that age then.

But then per your situation, are thinking about #3. And who knows how old your #2 will be by that time. So then maybe a tandem stroller will be useful.

Think about, if you really need... a tandem stroller.

I have a Combi Twin Sport, a Babytrend Sit n Stand, and a Kolcraft Contours Options Tandem Stroller. I love all three for very different reasons. I had a regular Graco Tandem that I did not like, and have gotten rid of it.

The Combi Twin Sport is a relatively small side-bye-side. It is very easy to push, and I find it much less bulky than either of the other tandems. You can fit a car-seat in it. It's very light-weight, but if one child weighs considerably more than the other (as in the case of a 4 year-old with an infant) it can be kind of hard to push straight, and there is almost no storage space.

The Babytrend Sit 'n Stand is very awesome for two kids of very different sizes. It has one complete seat (where you can also put a car-seat) and then a padded bench in the back for an older child to sit. It also has a little platform for the older child to stand on. This is an excellent stroller if your older child is going to be spending a lot of time getting up and down for various reasons, but not for an older child is who just along for the ride, as the bench is not particularly comfortable. Small storage space, but an adult and children's cup holder.

The Kolcraft is by far the niftiest stroller I own. The seats lift off the base, so they can both face forward, face each other, face away from each other, etc. There is also a very specific infant-car-seat adapter that comes with it that fits most forms of car-seats. VERY large storage, you can fit several backpacks! Downsides are that it is quite heavy, and tall children won't fit under the short sunshades. Also, there is an adult cup holder, but no children's cup holders.

Good luck with your search!

ETA: Check out Craigs List. That's where I got my Kolcraft and Babytrend.
