Teacher Appreciation Week? - Oak Park,IL

Each year we do a little something for the staff for National Teacher Appreciation week, usually a lunch, cards from the kids, little treats for breakfast. It is first week in may this year, I think.

Any ideas that have worked for your school? We only have a staff of 12. Parents are great about volunteering. We'd like to keep costs down this year, but still let staff know we love them!
Thanks!

We did warm coffee cakes, warm muffins and someone brought in their capp maker and some juice. Instead of food at lunch we did food for the soul and brought in someone to do 5-10 minute sitting massages. We also gave a gift card at the end of the week to a down town independent business for either coffee or a snack. We also offered parents to come in to do extra work...copies...helping with tests...correcting homework...making boards for the class. Good luck.

Our school does a lunch. A parent committee plans it and parent volunteers prepare and serve it on a Friday at lunchtime. It's a fairly elaborate event with a theme and decorations and really good food (I've heard - haven't been.) I think the PTO pays for the cost of the food out of their funds.

wow.. as an early childhood teacher for many years.. I have to say these posts are fantastic. Any teacher would feel incredibly loved with these ideas! I can't tell you how much we appreciate this type of recognition from our families.
I'm sure anything you finally decide on will be greatly appreciated!

We have each child bring in a flower to the female teacher and candy bar to the male teacher. A parent volunteer is at the door in the morning and arranges the floweres in a vase. I think the PTO does a lunch for the teachers on Friday. Having been a sub in different schools I know it means a lot to the teachers. I also want parents to remember the special ed aides and teachers. They work very hard. I saw one time all the teachers were getting lunches and the special ed classroom got nothing. SAD!

We've done a lunch, a breakfast, a sweets day and had the kids make a book. The room mom sends home a blank page with each kid along with instructions on what to put on the paper. Something like "Mrs. Smith is a great teacher because....". Then all the pages get put in a book which is presented to the teacher.

The breakfast was pretty low key, coffee, pastries and bagels. The lunch was catered (paid for by the PTA) and the sweets day was cookies and brownies and other sweets made by the moms.

We did the flowers one year, but I guess someone complained about allergies or taking the flowers home so that hasn't been repeated.
