Don't put teething toys in the freezer. Put them in the refrigerator instead. The freezer damages the plastic.
my 5 month old son has been congested for 4 days now and seems like he can barley breathe through his nose. He has been very cranky and cries but can be soothed when we hold him. He has had a fever of 101 for 36 hours. Could this be teething or should I be concerned about something else?
thank you all so much for your help! I am so pleased with the fantastic responses, I have learned a ton. My son has completely recovered. I am sure it was teething. Because of the intense drolling congestion is a side effect, as well as a low grade fever from there immune system working overtime.
Thanks to all you mommies!

It's possible that he is teething, but to have a 101 fever for three days seems a little high to me. I would call the Dr. just to be safe.
when my son was first teething at 6 months old he drooled a lot, but did not have a fever and usually just wanted to put everything in his mouth.
i would take him to the dr.
i did not think congestion was a part of teething...?

p.s. if he is teething -hylands teething tablets are great:)
Hello, my grandson is also 5mths and is going thru same situation although each individual is different; you have many signs and symptoms; as long as you are concern at all times you will notice the difference; when it pertains to teething they usually have this urge to put everything in their mouth. One of the most common soothers is the plastic toy you put in the freezer and as soon they get restless you give them the toy and it helps a great deal. Goodluck G.
One the fever has hit 3 days it is time to bring the lil one into the dr.
I would bring him to the doctor to be sure it's not an infection of some kind. Also if he is on milk based formula it could cause congestion. When babies have mucus they are usually put on Soy milk/formula. But please ask his doctor first.
Hope he feels better quickly.
"Hyland's" Vitamin C Plus Cold Tablets will help with the congestion and Teething Tablets will help with teething symptoms. I learned that any Homeopathic remedy can be taken pregnant, nursing, and from birth.
Did you just start giving your baby foods? Many times teething along with new foods is too much for the immune system all at once. It is normal for a cold to start. It's caring for it that is the trick. I personally go with the most natural way possible. Homeopathic remedies assist the body by unblocking it's natural ability to heal itself.
You may try "Sambacol" infant syrup....it boosts the immune system...and Herbal Expectorant...you can buy it at Whole Foods. Saline gel or spray for his nose to clean it out. When he sleeps elevate his mattress with a rolled towel underneath so the mucus drains down. Also put a humidifier on in his room when he sleeps. Burn Organic Eucalyptus Oil in an oil burner for Aroma Therapy...anytime of day.
Humphry's make a Homeopathic Fever reducer...or just use Infant's Tylenol "Dye Free" to keep the fever down. 101 is not too high for an Infant, but if it goes 102-103 take him to the Pediatrician.
If he had an ear infection he would be pulling his ear and he would be inconsolable...if you think it could be, "Similasan" Earache Relief will ease the pain and the pediatrician can offer something as well.
Good Luck Mommy...Happy Mother's Day!!!!!!
I am a grandmother now but my doctor always told me if the mucus coming from the nose is colored green or yellow he has either a bacterial or viral infection. I would recommend calling your pediatricians office.
are you rotating motrin and tylenol, does he still have a fever if you are. If so I would take him to the Dr's. It could be associated with teething, but it sounds like a little more. Try using saline drops in his nose and suctioning. Call your Dr., Good Luck! www.DiscoveryToysLink.com/LisaRyan LisaM
In my experience with my 3 children, a high fever with congestion is a cold. It's ok to give ibuprofen and acetaminophen at the regular scheduled times to help with the fever. Just be sure you ask your ped how much to administer. In a few days, he'll feel better. It is not at all out of the question for a baby to run a low grade temp with teething. And, a little runny nose can also be associated with teething. However, a fever of 101 (or more) is not teething.
If you're not sure about something health-related, call your pediatrician. If you're not comfortable calling your pediatrician, then find a different pediatrician.
Better safe than sorry!
He probably just has a little cold or something, but it wouldn't hurt to give his doctor a call, especially with a 101 fever. My daughter (now 2.5) maybe had a low-grade fever with teething, but I don't recall anything ever going over 100. Good luck, I sure hope your little one feels better soon.

I'm not a doctor, but it sounds like a cold or possibly an ear infection to me. Call his pediatrician and they will tell you whether he needs to be seen.
DEFINATELY NOT TEETHING!!! LOTS OF BACTERIAL VIRUSES GOING AROUND RIGHT NOW, please go to your pediatrician ASAP! Me and my kids have been sick for the past two weeks and two weeks prior to all that we were quit ill then too and it's BAD!
