My baby is about to turn one. She's been a cranky mess the last two days and she's woken up all hot and sweaty. Motrin cools her down but she's about to pull her ears off, she's rubbing her face a lot too. I'm not sure of this is teething or an ear infection. I've been using the usual teething remedies, motrin, teething tabs, oragel, but it seems like her teething is worse or it's an ear infection. She has her front teeth and I was able to sooth her teething in the past. She sleeps through the night, crying out once in a while. She hasn't been sick so I was thinking it's extreme teething. She's only napping for 30 minutes when usually it's 90 minutes. She wakes up crying and pulling her ears. Since it's Sunday I can't get her to the pedia until tomorrow so I'm asking you moms. Thanks!

What can I do next?

it could be an ear infection, so definately get that checked out today, which i'm sure you will. but it could also be teething. my 15 month old was unbearable a couple of months ago when he was getting all 4 of his molars in over a span of 3 weeks or so. nothing would help him. naps were shorter for sure and sleeping through the night did not happen. for some kids it's worse than others. i don't remember going through nearly as much with my oldest when he got 8 teeth in at once. good luck to you.

I just had this same issue with my lil man. Odds are it's an ear infection. Thats what it was with my son. Just with him he had the flue a few weeks ago then wassssssss teething then three days after I took him to the E.R. he ended up with an ear infection but I just thought it was the flue and teething. Take her in monday first thing. If you can't get her into your doctor bring her to the a Take Care Clinic at any Walgreens. They will tell you (If it is an ear infection) She will have to take Antibiotics for 5-10 days. She'll feel better most likely by the next day or sooner. Good luck I hope I helped!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately, it could be either! The same thing just happened to us- my son is the same age, had bubbles where all his molars will be, took ok naps and slept ok most of the night, but at 5:00 he'd wake up and would freak out when I put him back in his crib (for 2 nights and on the third it happened around 3:30am)...in our case, he had had a cold a week before and the weekend just prior he had a fever of about 102 and woke up sweaty. That went away and then the sleep disruptions began- he'd wake up sweaty and crying a really sad cry. I convinced myself it was the teeth but when I brought him to the Dr. they took one look and were like "OH YEAH" it's his ear! I felt horrible since I had been writing it off to teeth, but she said his symptoms were "textbook"- he also hadn't been wanting to eat or drink much, which is a big sign (but that's also a sign of teething-)...I guess you just never know! Good luck!

I'd call the "on call" number for your doctor and run it past them, just to be sure it's not something else. Kids have such different symptoms from teething. Did this happen when your baby got in her other teeth? Is she prone to ear infections? If she's had one already, did she act this way at all?

Give your doc a call. Yes, it's a Sunday, but that's why they get paid the big bucks. ;)

Good luck,
T.

Not sure if this will help but I just went through this with my 9 month old and her eye teeth, I took her to the doc thinking it was her ears due to her constant pulling and rubbing at her ears and the sides of her face.
Though they say that teething does not cause fever, diaper rash, upset tummy.. I found all of these symptoms to be true with her.
Are her gums bubbled at all? It took about 3-4 days of fever and such before my daughter found some relief and the teeth broke through.
I wouldn't rule out the ears on your own but sounds like teething discomfort to me and I too went through the lack of sleep as well, she was just all around fussy but not sick fussy just bothered.
Good luck!
