Not too long ago I had asked advice on when to worry about my son getting teeth, well we no longer have to worry because they started coming in this week. Now I was wondering what kinda advice i could get for the teething. He's not sleeping good, not wanting to be left alone, very clingy, very fussy, not eating alot, the norm. I have been giving him tylenol and using orajel and teethers. Any advice would be wonderful. Thanks in advance.
For me, you seem to be doing the right things, one thing that I did for both of my kids and grandchildren was to take an old fashion round top clothspin and an orginial nipple - boil water and put both in it to sterlize them - with the nipple still hot pull it down over the round part of the clothspin and let cool, this will stay on and they can hold it. Mine loved this idea. Also the teething tablets are great but with the orajel I'd be careful becaue it could numb his throat and interfere with his/her swallowing.

One word: popsicles! We always used the 'kool aid in a clear tube' kind. I think they are called Otter Pops but there are several brands out there. They can gnaw on the plastic tube if you don't want them sucking on popicles all day but at that age a few of them a day won't hurt.
You can also try getting a washcloth wet and freezing it. Once frozen and hard it stays cold/hard for awhile while they chomp at it. My kids always wanted hard foods when teething like crackers and cheerios.

I have a 10 month old. He started teething at 4 months. His favorite thing to chew on was a wet/damp wash cloth. There were a few times that I put it in the fridge for 10-15 mins just to cool it off. I never gave him orajel, although I did give him Tylenol a few times. He didn't care for teethers, even if they were cooled! He's just picky I guess :)
Hope this helps!

Teething tablets are great, and as some of the other mom's said, the biscuits are awesome. I would alternate doses of Ibuprofen and Tylenol; the ibuprofen does work a bit better on the pain because it's an anti-inflammatory whereas tylenol is not, but alternating the two gives the best results for comfort.
I used to do the washcloth thing as mentioned, frozen waffles work too, they can gum them up and have built in drool cups. I also had one of those finger toothebrushes and would put it on and rub his gums just for comfort and to ease some of the pain.
Teething can give them runny noses and diarrhea too; yogurt is an excellent natural way to decrease loose stool, but beware that milk products actually make mucus thicker; I would stay away from drinking actual milk and go more with water or pedialyte, pedialyte popcicles too!
Comfort foods are reat at this time! Just hang in there, my little boy used to cut three or four at a time and would get sick as a dog for several days trying to cut new teeth. It goes by fast though!

I just found an oragel that is for nighttime. It has more percentage of the numbness to last longer. It seemed to help more when my daughters I teeth & Canines came in. Another suggestion would be to put something under he mattress on the side that his head rests. The blood slowly coming to his head when he's sleeping can make his gumbs throb. Hang in there :)

I just recently read about this myself. The orajel doesn't really help, if anything it will numb for only a minute and usually numbs the tongue more than anything else. They said sleep will be interrupted and to give them a wash cloth that's been damped and frozen in the freezer to chew on.

We used Hylands Teething tablets for my daughter....they work wonders and she loved them! They came very highley recommended from our pedi and pharmacist. I've also heard that the orajel can harden babies gums.
Hope this helps!

My husband and I used the wash cloths and the teethers and i was concerned about the liquid in the teethers so i went to my mom for advice and she and my mother in law and grandmother and other moms in our area said the old wives tale of whiskey on the gums helped. Whiskey on the gums was the lifesaver for teething stage. i bought a travel size bottle and put it on my finger and rubbed the gums and of course it tasted nasty but it calmed our son down and we had plenty of sleep each night. It doesn't take but very little to numb those ole gums. My granny said thats all they had when my mom was teething. Our pediatrician also said it was a good idea since there would not be enough alcohol rubbed to hurt them, but also said to do it after feeding. Good luck.

My daughter would not take Oragel, so I had to go and buy Little Teethers mouth gel, they were only a $1 and they worked great because they are like the Q-tip filled with oragel and most of the time she would open her mouth and let me put it on her teeth with no fighting. I also used cold washcloths that I would put in the freezer and she would chew on them and I bought her a teething blanket. Well good luck in the teeth!! Hope your baby feels better soon.

The one thing that I would suggest is using Motrin instead of Tylenol. Motrin is what Riley Hospital had recommended when I called and it is now all I use. It works wonders!!

We love both Hylands Teething Tablets and Herbs for Kids Gum-omile Oil. The Gum-omile doesn't taste good, but it numbs the gums (I tried it out) and has helped when dd was having a really hard time with her first two teeth.
Frozen washcloths were a favorite of my first dd and a friend of mine swears by frozen bagels.

Both of my kids preferred wet wash cloths to teething rings. I'd put them in the back of the refigator so they were not quite frozen and they'd gum the heck out of them. Another trick that worked with my oldest was putting the orajel on the pacifer before I gave it to him. You also might want to try him on teething biscuits. They can be very messy when gummed up, but both of my kids loved gnawing on those as well.

Well first off not to upset you more but your not even to the bad ones yet the I teeth or the canines are just wonderful... or I should say for most children. I used Ibprophin and Hylands for her pain she took both very well. Just fill him up on Milk and water and they have a baby vitamin if your worried about that he can take. Just love him and be there for him

My kids never liked the orajel. It would scare them because as it mixes with their saliva and they start swallowing it, it makes their whole mouth and probably part of their throat numb. The tylenol was never strong enough to do anything for them so I used the infants motrin...it's stronger and lasts longer.

I would advise against the orajel. The anethstetics in those actually toughen up the gums and it causes more pain and you have to use more and on and on...
Tylenol, lots of cuddles, good and sometimes cold snacks and drinks, tolerance for slobber and patience is what got us through. Naps and plenty of rest help if you can get them to go down for it. Teething is growing and growing means sleeping.

First off, my sympathies on the teething! I know it's a good thing, but MAN can it be hard sometimes! Secondly, I would try Motrin instead of Tylenol. Tylenol works great to reduce fevers, but I find that Motrin (or other infant ibuprofen) works MUCH BETTER at relieving teething pain. Try that and see if it helps!

I used teething biscutes and instead of orajel and tylenol I used motrin. I used to also feed her ice cream. Yes they will be very needy.. Don't worry He will eat when he is hugry. Is he still on formual? If not you can give him sum pediasure to make sure he is getting enough of the good stuff.. (I world ask my doctor first) I know we did because my daughter stoped taking formula at 11 months. She would have nothig to do with it. Good Luck
