Teething Already?

Hi Moms,
My little girl is 3 1/2 months- 15 weeks, and has been waking a lot more frequently at night (like an hour after feeding) fussing and crying- different kind of cry. She generally does this for about two minutes and then goes back to sleep. It is always between midnight and morning. And she is just crying out a lot more in her sleep then as well! She has these little rings looped together as well as teething toys that hang, and all she wants to do is have those or her hands in her mouth. I can certainly see teeth through her gums, but her gums have not changed any in the last three weeks. Could this be teething pains already?

What can I do next?

My oldest was born with teeth, so yes, it's entirely possible she is teething. It can take a while from when teething pains start to when the teeth pop out, also. You might have a couple of weeks of teething, then nothing, then out pops a tooth. She may be drooling a lot, maybe even have a very low grade fever or have mild diarrhea. We tried Hyland's teething pills and sometimes they did help. We also did frozen bagels and the teething rings you can put in the freezer. No orajel though, because we were told that can actually prolong the process.

It's possible, my daughter had her first teeth poke through right before her 4mth check. She was SOOOO drooly...I didn't even check until the doctor asked and there were two little teeth poking through. Try teething tablets.

Hi J.!

It very well could be! My son got his first 2 teeth between 3 1/2 and 4 months. He is now 8 months and has 10!!

It is early...but not the end of the world. I would take small wash cloths and get them wet and put them in the freezer for a little while and he loved sucking on them.

My ped also had us use Baby Orajel and tylenol.

Hope this help!

Babies can start teething early and you can get help at the health food store. they have some small fast desolving
tablets that are great for teething. However, babies usually cry because they are hungry or have gas pains. Make sure you burp the baby well. If you are breat feeding watch your diet. You can also use a little baking soda like powder and rub it on the stomach. For hungry babies, I was told to add 1 tablespoon of baby cereal to the milk and it worked for me. For gas, use the baking soda or place a thick soft blanket on top of dryer and turn it on for a few minutes will calm the baby and help relax. It's good to also make a call to the doctor. I found out that mother wit helped me the most. Some of the things they told me sounded alittle crazy but in desperation i tried them.

My 12 yr old got her first teeth at 4 months. She lost her first one at age 4. Right now she has a perfect set of teeth, no ortho needed, and she has all permanent teeth. She is age 12 (almost 13) and the Dr. says she has a 14 yr old mouth.

This did not happen with hubby or me so of course I was concerned as you are. One other thing....per my pediatric dentist....when your daughter gets teeth early, lose and get permanent teeth before her "age, she gets sometimes gets mother nature early as well. My daughter got her period shortly after turning 12.

My oldest got her first 2 teeth at 4 months! I thought my stepdad was crazy when he said she was teething, but a week later her 2 bottom teeth poked through!! She's been early on all her teeth ever since. It is possible, although most of my friends babies did't start til around 6 months. :)

The process of Teething can take several weeks to even months before the actual tooth apears. this can cause pain, inflamation and low grade fevers, and loose stools and drooling. many babies can start this process at 3 months before the first tooth arrives at 4-7 months.

Pain in the middle of the night can also be associated with Gas or reflux. you might want to try some little tummies or mylecon drops the next time this happens and see if that helps. Or give them to her before she goes to bed. the gas drops helpo break down the gas bubbles in the intestines so they are not painful.

She may also want to suck on something that is why you find her with the toys in her mouth I would make sure she has an orthodontic pacifier (my sons teeth and bite were messed up severely becuase of the green soothies) in her crib.

Good luck, A. J

oh yeah! My son got his first tooth at 4 months. Now he is almost 10 months and he has 6 teeth! He too cried mostly at night, and when you think about the fact that they grow is their sleep it is not too surprising. :) soon your little girl will have a beautiful toothy smile.:) Use Humphreys or those net things that look like pacifiers that you can put ice in.

Oh Girl,
Yes, my son who will turn 2 at the end of the month had his first tooth at 3 months. He has all of his teeth, he finished about 4 or 5 months ago. It's not easy to know your child is in pain. Try wet wash clothes, put in the feezer they really seem to work well on days when the baby is in more pain. Teething comes in waves, once they break the surface it calms down for a few weeks then along comes another.

My son got his teeth around 4 months but showed signs of teething for the month before that also. Try the teething tablets if she cant sleep. they do seem to help. If she is able to put herself back to sleep in just a few minutes then I wouldn't worry too much. There were a couple nights that my son could hardly sleep at all and the only way i could keep him from screaming was to let him watch those baby einstein movies...he loved them and it took his attention off of the pain. Getting teeth that early is perfectly normal, so don't worry.

Hi J.,
My son began teething at 2 months and by the time he was 3 1/2 months old had 2 teeth. Try letting her chew on something cold. My sister in law uses the foam bath letters and freezes them. Ask about giving her some tylenol for the pain. Also at Wal=Mart there are these natural teething tablets that seemed to soothe my son instantly. Good luck, I know it is tough, this too shall pass.

definately sounds like teething. my sons started very early as well and now at 7 mos already have 6 teeth each :) try the teething gel or tablets from target. both seem to work well on my kids. sometimes i would have to reapply almost every hour for a few hours to help him with the relief...good luck

Hi J.. Yes. This is certainly teething pain. My oldest son cut his first tooth at 4 months. My other children where different my 2nd child didn't get her first tooth until 11 months. I would start Oral gel and infant motrin for pain.

My son had the same type of trouble when he was 4 months. Very early on, he was trying to gum on everything, and he was crying and touching his gums. We saw the little white spots through his gums for several months. We would give him orajel at times, tylenol at other times. Our pediatrician said the tylenol would be better because it would relieve the pain longer. Unfortunately, he did not actually get any teeth until he was 11 months old. And when he did finally cut them, he did not cry at all or seem to be in any pain.
