Hi everyone, it's me again. :-) My 10 month is teething really really bad. I was just wondering if anyone else had been through a really bad time with their kids while teething and what you did. She whines and cries for hours both during the day and at night, tylenol, teething tablets, and orajel do not help. Nothing soothes her and I hate to just let her cry but I have got to sleep. My husband and I are losing our patience and our sanity. We've taken her to the doctor a couple of times and they say that she is just teething. Is is supposed to be this bad? Please help.

What can I do next?

We gave our son the all natural teething biscuits (biter biscuits) because he didn't like anything cold. I think the counter pressure of biting on something hard helped with the pain. Good luck, I understand. EVERY one of my son's teeth has come with intense pain and sickness. He's almost done, but then we'll have 2 year molars to look forward to soon!

My 40ish year old babysitter taught me a trick
that horrified me at first, but now I'm a believer. Take a heaping teaspoon full of crushed ice or small chips and wrap it up tight in the center of a very clean baby washcloth and put a rubberband around the washcloth as tight as you can. Give it to the baby dry on the outside.
We used Motrin because it specifically targets bone, muscle and joint pain and is most effective with any tooth problem along with orajel, but if I had to choose the best of all the remedies, it would be the ice in the washcloth. It saved the day (and nights) more times than I can count.
Good luck!

Re-reading my response, the ice should be in
a "pocket" fashioned in the center of the cloth and look a bit like a lollypop with the edges of the cloth like a ponytail on the other side of the band for the baby to hold onto. The rubberband should isolate the little round pocket of ice that is small enough for baby to chew on. As the washcloth gets wet, the ice can move around a bit. The first time this is offered, it might be clumsey, but I bet the baby goes for it the second time!

Have you tried massaging her gums? My son would fight me at first but after I got my finger, toothbrush, burp cloth, etc. in there he would just go limp in my arms and allow me to do it.

My son does best with frozen teething rings or frozen waffles. LOL The cold soothes his gums and teeth.
