Teething- HELP!

My 6 mo DS is teething (we think) and I am looking for ideas on how to ease his discomfort. He nurses but I think the sucking is making it worse, so he isn't eating as much a usual. He also eats some cereal and baby food, but has not been too excited about eating that either lately. He is very fussy and I feel so bad for him! Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

What can I do next?

Babies when teething don't eat as much as normal. I say get some natural teething tablets, they worked great for my son, immediate relief, try giving them to him right before feeding him. With my daughter the tablets did nothing and I had to give her tylenol. Have him chew on a cold/semi frozen wash cloth to provide relief on swollen gums. Teething tablets or tylenol will help quickly. Try pumping and putting in a bottle so you know the exact amount he is taking in.

I cut up pieces of banana, and put them in the freezer. My son liked it because it was soothing, and he was also eating something. Don't worry about your baby choking, it breaks down enough and is squshy enough that there shouldn't be a problem, He also liked to suck on a wet wash cloth.

I hope you find that helpful!

Have you seen the fresh food strainers for babies? They look like little mesh baggies with handles for babies to hold themselves. I put ice in them for teething and sometimes cold apple slices (peeled). If your baby does not want to suck, you might want to look into a possible ear infection. My little teether has not lost her appetite.

well there is tylenol if he has a fever or his gums are really red, there are teething tablets made by the hylands brand(homeopathic) that work great for some kids, baby abesol or hylands teething gel to numb the gums, some kids like bottles or sippy cups with soft spouts full of ice water and some kids like to chew on cold wet rags. these are all remedies to help with the discomfort but nothing really takes the pain away completey. keep an eye on your ds' gums and if something doesn't pop through soon maybe check in with the dock to rule out any other causes for his cranky behavior. with the last tooth my baby girl got she just slept and slept but had her tooth not popped through last week i would have started to think something else was wrong. best of luck to your little guy teething is no fun for babies(or mommas for that matter) give a holler if you have any other questions, N.

I used a large variety of thing from the frozen wash cloth to a froxen green onion. Here is what i found to work the best . Froxen mixed veggies a few on the highchair, otter pops frozen but not open, humphreys homeopathic teething tablets looks like mini bean bag stuffing. They say to disolve them but my kiddos loved to chew on them. Frozen orange slices. Crushed ice.and last but not least alternate tylenol and ibuprofin every three hours. Teething buscits and dum dum suckers are great distractions to the pain. Good luck ** god bless**

Tylenol about 30 minutes before nursing will help (and it lasts about 4-6 hrs) or putting teething gel on before nursing (although I've found the numbing effect doesn't last too long). Put a wet washcloth in the freezer for a few minutes to chill it down (but do not freeze it!) and he can chew on that.

Good luck, it's not easy to have a teething baby.

Okay, my daughter got her first tooth at 3 months so I know what you are goint thru (along with anyone else whom has kids). Teething is not fun at all! When she was that little I gave her a frozen waffle. I did keep an eye on her while she gumed it because if they are drooling a lot, it tends to break up. So watch. I used tylanol every 4-6 hours. I do not care who you are, you want to do anything to help them thru this. When she seemed the crankiest I would use the medicine. When he gets a little older, I actually froze go-gurt and let her eat that. (she loved it!) popcicles too. My daughter was never one to use the teething rings or wash cloth so I had to find other things. Also, something that worked great was the bags with handles which you put fruit in and let them knaw on that. They get the juice and some pieces but they are more mush than anything because the mesh stops big pieces from going thru. Get frozen fruit and put in there. Anything he can chew on cold will work. These are just a few which worked for me! Hope that helps! Good Luck and hang in there!!!
