Teething or Not Teething?

She is sick.
She is teething.
She is uncomfortable.
She has all of these things, at the SAME time.
That... would make even an Adult, fussy and uncomfortable and not able to sleep well.

Plus, she is on the cusp of 18 months old. When on the cusp of an age change & growth-spurt... babies/kids, get tweaked. Because, they are changing so much at these junctures both physically and cognitively and even their appetites increases at growth-spurts.

So, all of these things, really tweak a child.

It is often, many things at the same time, that affect a child and then their sleep. It being growing pains and temporary tweaks.

Also occurring at this age, is "Night Terrors." Look it up online.
This is normal and is a developmental thing.

She has MANY things, going on at the same time. But a baby/child, cannot just cope with it, so well. Its h*** o* them. Thus it affects their sleep, too. Because, they do not have coping-skills nor deductive reasoning, like Adults do.

Ear infections don't always produce a fever.
If anything, take her to the Doc to check for that. So that you can rule that out or not.

Before you even mentioned the ear infection at 9 months that is what this sounded like to me. You know your child best, so do your best to judge if this is in the range of normal for her for teething. I do know that my son had more pain with his molars than he did with his other teeth and they often take longer to come in.

Hey, from my experience with my teething toddlers...it sounds like she is teething. Of course keep an eye on her temp and all that. It comes in waves too. One week they're fine and then all of a sudden!!!! My 2.5 year old is bad with just being generally grumpy and ill. He usually doesn't want to eat anything & the hand nawing of course. He may be done now, but I haven't put my finger in the gator's mouth lately. My 18m old is the one who will wake up a lot at night. Just inconsolable crying! You can just tell he's miserable & tired :-( Its really really bad. Now, once I notice the hand nawing and grumpiness has started up again I just keep Motrin(Advil..something like that) in him for a couple of days. If it's really bad & I KNOW a lot of people think this is awful, but we put vanilla extract on our finger & rub that on his gums. Erika- we have also used burbon....It really helps! Oh & yes rotate motrin and tylenol at the same time. I heard that on The Doctor's. Another thing...a friend of mine swears by Hylands teething tablets. You can just give them to her to chew up. They seem to like them too. (They disolve instantly so no choking worries) Hope she feels better soon!! :-(

My 14 month old was like that the night before last night. It ended up being gas. It took me so long to burp him, rub his tummy lay him on my knees to get that gas out, it killed me to see how much pain he was in.
When he gets an ear infection he doesn't develop a fever or starts pulling on his ears. He starts getting really bad diahrreah. So symptoms of an ear infection are different from every child. Give her motrin and tylenol. I know teething is uncomfortable for them. I've dipped a cotton ball in wisky and rubbed it on my sons gums because they were so bad, and believe it or not it worked so well. I made sure it wasn't alot to affect him. And my pediatrician knew I did it and he asked why other moms won't try it. I guess they think one bit of alcohol in a babies system is horrible. But look at the amount of alcohol there is in orajel.
I doubt anything else is going on with her. Babies sometimes can't handle the pain of teething. I would also tell you to damp a washcloth and throw it in the freezer and give that to her to chew on. It helps alot!!!!
