Teething Rash?

My 7 month old baby just cut her first tooth. She has developed a rash all over her face and torso, its a very slight color of red, little, and probably painless. It gets worse with the heat, or upon waking up (when her temp is hotter). She has no fever, and i have not changed my diet at all. I heard that babies can get a rash with teething, but from the saliva, and just on their chin, i also heard of rashes everywhere else while teething. Doctors seem to have so many different opinions on rashes and their reasons, i'd like to hear from the mothers

no offense to the doctors

My son did the same thing while he was teething, and he still does as he's cutting in his molers. My son is 16 months old. He would get it on his cheeks and chin, and also on his butt cheeks. My doc said it was exema or just really irritable dry skin. Well, he no longer gets the rashes on his face when he isn't teething. You can't help them stop salivating all over themselves or on anything else as the matter. If her face doesn't clear up within a week or so after cutting a tooth, and you know for sure she isn't starting another tooth coming in, then I would be alittle concerned with it, but if it's just from cutting a tooth, then I would say you have no worries. Hope this helps.

All my boys got that kind of rash from the saliva from teething. They got it down their chin, in the creases of their necks and dow their chest. A bib helps alot!

I agree with fifth's disease. My son came down with this virus in April. He has fair skin that is sensitive and he had the rash pretty bad. It covered his arms, armpit area, thighs, buttocks, and face. It came and went without bothering him like the previous post stated. I also noticed a mild fever and runny nose which I initially thought was related to teething. The rash went away after about a week but then came back a month later after swimming all weekend (heat/sun). He did not have a fever or runny nose this time and it only lasted about a week. I talked to his pediatrician and she said it's probably a virus and I can give him 1 teaspoon of Zyrtec (he's 12 months) to clear the rash up. It worked. The rash never bothered him it just looked bad. HTH Check with your pediatrician for the correct dose of Zyrtec for your child before you give it.

My child had a similar rash and it was viral. The pedi referred to it as "5th disease". It is fairly common...the rash was on my daughters face and trunk. She did not have a fever, although they can sometimes have a slight one in the very beginning. It goes away on it's own but with sun/heat you can still see the rash for up to 2 weeks (especially if she is fair skinned).

If this is it, you probably won't get it. Most of us were exposed during childhood.

All four of my children ultimately broke out with this rash (but at different times within two weeks)and it was very mild and did not seem to bother them at all...

We have very good friends with twins. When they were teething they had a terrible rash the entire time.

Their Dr said they were allergic to their own saliva. He said to try to keep it off of their faces as much as possible. Their mom kept bandannas around their necks and constantly wiped off their chins and necks with a dry cloth.

This went on each time they were teething...

Two of my four children get a light pink or red rash after they have either fought something off or have run a fever, maybe three or so days before. Maybe your child ran a fever when she was teething and now that it is over she now has the rash. It usually goes away fairly quickly.
