How were you treated (what perscritions)? We cannot seem to get on top of this yeast.

What can I do next?

We have had the same problem. 2 things have helped.
1) gentian violet. it is a dye that is used as a fungicide on the skin. It can also be used for thrush. look it up on the internet and you should find exact directions. most pharmacies have it and you don't need a prescription.
2) my daughter had it behind her ears and i think it kept reinfecting her mouth which infected me too. I put the violet behind her ears too and haven't had any thrush since.

Prescriptions didn't work.. my son had it for so long.. someone suggested gential violet.. buy it at the pharmacy.. it really works.. use it for 2 weeks.. you put a dot on a qtip and put it in the babies mouth.. and some on your breast... it will go away.. but 2 weeks... keep using it... and after 2 weeks you will be fine... it stains.. so don't put anything over your breast until it dries.. call the pharmacy.. and see who carries it.. good lukc

I tried nystatin. It helped a little but didn't get rid of it completely. I was put on an oral med diflucan (Spelling?) it worked great and was recommended by the lactation consultant. Good luck

OMG we struggled with this for 8 MONTHS before it finally went away! It's aweful and I'm SO sorry you're going through it!

It was a while ago, but I believe the medication that FINALLY got rid of it for us was Nystatin. It's an anti-fungal cream. I would apply it to my nipples and then my daughter would get it in her mouth when she nursed. But definitely check with your doctor about it first. And Good Luck!!!

Check with your Pediatrician... you AND your baby, will need to get treated at the SAME time... otherwise it will continue to go back and forth.... not going away.

If the Thrush is also bothering your baby and his/her feeding ability... then that is also not good.

Hi Heidi, so sorry you are going through this. I would ask a dr. In addition, are you drinking enough water? Drying your breasts after feeding. Letting them air out???? Eating yogurt?
HTH and hang in there.
