HI Moms,

I only have a few weeks left of pregnancy but I just feel soooo drained! I'm always exhausted and I'm getting an average of 8-9 hours of sleep a night.
Some days are worse than others but pretty much every day, I'm just SO tired.

I know this comes with pregnancy but was there anything you moms did in order to not feel so tired and sluggish throughout your days?
I take my daily prental along with 2 iron pills (Suggested by OB), stay pretty active and busy yet nothing seems to help!

TIA for any helpful advice.

What can I do next?

Well, I was tired for years, before I realized it was my sinuses/allergies. Once I started allergy treatments, I felt TONS better and now have much more energy.

I don't know if you have any allergy problems, but maybe you have minor ones like I do. Once you put them all together, though, you have major problems. (I am allergic to food like beef, citrus, mushrooms, and others, which I loved (citrus is what I love most. lol. I just have to have them in moderation now.) It's just nice to have energy again.

it's natures way of making sure you are well rested for the labor! I wasn't tired at all during my 3rd pregnancy. But 2 weeks before I had my daughter all I wanted to do was sleep! It was almost like it happened overnight.

take your iron pills at a different time than your prenatal. Your prenatal have calcium which absorbs iron.

Other than that I would say take a nap! You body knows what it's doing and is very good at making sure it's takes care of you!

Congrats on the pregnancy and soon to be wee one!

exercise, exercise, exercise.

Also, 8-9 hours at night without a nap might not be enough at this point.

K.,
I had the same issue when I was pregnant with my first. I found taking 2 to 3 small walks a day really helped, just around the block. Right now is perfect because the weather is getting so nice. The fresh air and sun will be good for your spirits (part of my issue too) and the walking will be good for you and the baby.

My best advice to you is hang in there!!!!!!!!
This is the worst part, the last 2 weeks of pregnancy, as you know from having kids before.I have 2 myself and am thinking of another but very concerned about my anemia.I have all the time but it isworse during pregnancy.I took iron also during both of my pregnancies and it is hard to kick.Just rest as much as possible as you will need more strength once the baby is here you know!!!!
Best wishes to you!!!!

Hi K.,

Being tired can be frustrating. I had to take naps. Growing that precious baby is a lot of work for your body.

You also mentioned you have had "some pretty rough times lately". Lack of energy can also be a sign of depression. I would talk to your OB. I am sure you are seeing your dr more frequently now.

Don't be too hard on yourself. Taking care of yourself is top priority.

I hope you find the answer you are looing for.

K.,

Is your prenatal a Rx, or is your OB letting you take an OTC brand of vitamin? If you are taking the OTC, which brand is it? The reason I'm asking is that a lot of "branded" vitamins are actually NOT absorbed by the body, so you are literally flushing your $$ down the proverbial toilet! Also, how is your diet? I know there isn't a whole lot of "tummy" room left for you to eat, but if you're not getting enough nutrition, that can also make you extremely tired. Do you have any friends who can come get your kids for a couple of hours each day, to give you some "nap" time?

You can email me privately at ____@____.com, and let me know.

Hang in There!!

I had the same problem with my 2nd and especially my third pregnancies. My iron was low & by after lunch, I was exhausted! Instead of supplements (I didn't need any more constipation issues....) the first thing that midwives try is to take 1 tbsp. twice a day of liquid chorophyll, it has to be liquid, not capsules. It helps your body "hold onto" the iron you are already taking in. My iron has continued to be low and my youngest just turned one. I still take it. I buy it from the Vitamin Shoppe. I can tell when I have skipped doses. Also, try and eat more protein. That will help your body hold onto the iron too. Your baby needs the protein anyway.

Also, I don't know how old your other two are, but try and nap when they do, or at least get them to rest and you can do the same. You need your sleep while you can get it and you'll be much more ready for your labor if you can be well rested instead of dog tired by the time it finally arrives!

I agree with taking a little walk too. And, are your thyroid levels okay? Sometimes they change during pregnancy and that can throw you off too.

Good luck and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy! If you are still tired and struggling, don't be afraid to ask for help. With the kids, with housework, meals, whatever. And I don't necessarily mean from your husband! I mean from other moms and women that are in your circle.

Blessings~

I agree with Janette. Be sure that vitamin you are taking is in a form that your body will actually absorb. Many OTC vitamins (in particular) have very low absorption rates!
