I'd tell my doctor so you can find out of you're anemic or something, but some pregnancies are like this in the early months and sometimes it takes longer to feel energetic. The doctor should be able to tell you but I wouldn't worry.
Im 21 weeks pregnant and I'm tired all the time. It doesnt matter how much sleep I get I still feel like I havent slept in days! Could it be my iron being off balanced or blood sugar? Is it something I should express to my doctor on the 3rd of this month or something not to worry about?

This is so normal or it was to me.. Both pregnancies I was tired. Then my sister was superwoman and would say oh how could you be tired? Well, I was, and I will never forget it. But there will be others who will advise you to do something or other to be alert all the time, but I say, go with it, enjoy your pregnancy if you can rest do so, others are not in your body. Do not let anyone make you feel like you are a failure at being pregnant because you are tired. You are tired and that is your pregnancy. Glad I saw this first. Congratulations!
Hi A.,
Everybody so far is right. The baby is taking the bulk of the nutrition you are getting and you are probably not absorbing your nutrients well either. Not all prenatals are created equal. Even pharmaceutical grade prenatals that the doctor prescribes don't absorb well. An absorbable multivitamin/mineral complex is a must for anyone but especially when you are pregnant. I can recommend one if you like or you can research on your own. Either way, you need to act on this right away.
God bless and Congratulations!
Not surprised that you are tired. Your body is working hard right now. Can't help but wonder about the quality of your prenatal vitamin. Is it isotonic? Does it readily absorb into your system? If it is a big pill, we should talk about a better option.
normal but get your iron checked
I'd ask your Dr. It's probably the iron thing. When I was pregnant, I got a B-12 injection per Dr recommendation every month when I went for my check.
I'm not a Dr. and your case might be different. My body has issues with absorbing B-12, D, etc and I have to take them a different way.
Good luck.
I was the exact same way. It didn’t matter if I was getting 3 or 13 hours of sleep, I was always tired. Not so much sleepy, but I just always felt exhausted. In my situation, the dr. said it was normal. He told me to eat healthy, and rest as often as needed. You should definitely discuss it with yours, just to be on the safe side. Good luck.
Check in with your doctor. There may be a medical reason. But then, it could be entirely normal too. (But it's best to check it out anyway, for your health and the health of your baby!)
Having said that, it takes a lot of work to grow a baby! And it's tiring work! I have three kids.
I hate to say it, but welcome to sleep deprivation boot camp. I think that this is God's way of getting us ready for all of those sleepless nights after the baby is born ;)
It is normal to be so tired while pregnant but yes you could have really low iron. With my second pregnancy I was just so tired and it turned out I had really low iron. Like so low I had to take prenatals and two extra iron pills to make up for it. Once I started the extra Iron i did feel better. So yes talk to your doc about it. Also try eating more foods with iron in them. This pregnancy I haven't been too tired at all. I know this time around I drink slimfast for all those extra vitamins and it has iron in it so I really think that is helping this time around.
I think you should mention it . But it could just be normal it sounds normal.
Hi A.---You might also want to look at your diet and how that might support your energy levels. Be sure you are eating mostly fruits, veggies, whole grains, legumes/beans, nuts and seeds. You will need to eat more than the 7-13 recommended servings as your body is going through a lot right now. One way to help do that is to eat smaller meals more frequently throughout the day.
Too much animal protein can actually make you feel more tired, as it is much harder to digest. We only need about a playing card deck size each day. Sometimes we do need to eat more for circumstances like pregnancy or if a hard working athlete. But the ratio of fats to carbs to protein remains the same, 70% or more from carbohydrates (COMPLEX), 10% protein and no more that 20% of daily calories from fat, 10-15% being most healthy. You don't need extra protein.
I learned these details in a series of wellness classes, taught by a Naturopath who has her PhD in Nutrition. I'd be happy to share more if you'd like. I also have some great articles on pregnancy health to share. There was a really great one in the Oct 4 issue of Time. I will send a pdf copy if you send me your personal email. I wish you much luck and good health, D.
Your body is working extra nurturing your baby. It takes a toll. Check with your doctor to make sure everything is a.ok. (not vitamin deficient or anemic or anything going on...) and then, assuming that there are no problems, just accept that this is your pregnancy. Every woman's pregnancy is different. And every pregnancy (your first child or your last) is also different.
Your doctor probably asks you at each visit a cursory "how are you feeling?" at the beginning of your appointment. Answer honestly... don't give the standard "fine" response. Tell them! "I'm tired ALL THE TIME." "I feel completely exhausted even when I first wake up"... let them know how you really are. That is the only way they can do their jobs properly.
When my blood sugar was too high I would be extremely exhausted and could not stay awake. Its definitely worth checking. You can see your doctor or even just buy a cheap blood sugar monitor at walmart, there is one that is only $9 and the strips are fairly inexpensive as well. You should be down to 130 one hour after eating and less then 90 in the morning. Its different numbers then normal diabetics.
Best wishes!
I am 31 weeks pregnant and I am TIRED! With my first two pregnancies, I was really only tired for the first trimester, but now I guess between two small children and working full time, I am worn out. My iron is fine. Blood sugar is fine. This is my first boy, so I don't know if the different combination of hormones has anything to do with it. With the holiday season coming up, I just get tired thinking about all the things we will have to do and places we have to go. There are some days I do just the basics and let everything else sit. Get all the rest you can, eat healthfully and don't over do it. Your doctor should be doing blood tests at your next appt anyway to check your iron levels, etc.
You are going to be real tired that is normal but you need to also get your iron levels checked, talk to your Dr. about it ASAP.
If you need to take iron I highly suggest taking
SlowFe, it is so easy on your system and it won't make you constipated.
Alway take iron pills with O.J.
don't take it with milk.
I wish you the best.
