IS there anyone out there feeling as tired as I am? I am 35 years old, I work 3 days a week and on my days off, I am sooooo tired. I feel like i get plenty of sleep. When i wake up in the morning, i feel rested, but an hour to two hours later i am laying down to take a nap. I will sleep 1 to 2 hours, get up do a little bit of house work and then i am ready to lay back down and sleep.AND I DO. I cant figure out how i can be sooooo tired. IF ANY ONE COULD HELP IT WOULD BE GREATFULLY WELCOMED. I do take an anti depressant and i was less tired for about 2 to 3 weeks. THANKS

Dear D.,
Iwas like you. Very tired all the time. I went to a chiropractor who also deals in nutrition and found that I lacked vitamin B.(Thiamin) Many women lack this simple vitamin. You may lack a different vitamin. I would suggest to see a reputable chiropractor that also deals in nutrition.

YES! I felt this way almost my entire life. Besides the depression, I also had bad allergies and was also on allergy meds most of the time. I changed my diet in January and now eat only fruit for breakfast and a small lunch. I also stopped taking any meds and vitamins for the last 8 months or so (to save money). I finally started feeling much better and losing weight after switching my diet. My favorite breakfast is a grapefruit with honey. It really makes me feel better, but I get tired after I eat a lot of things.

Definitely get some blood work done, eat a healthy diet, limit coffee consumption to maybe 2 cups a day, drink 8 glasses of water, and get lots of rest when you can. the weather can play a large part on everything too:( good ol' ohio gloominess. see if you feel any better once it's sunny and warm. the sun gives you lots of vitamin d. i hope this helps. i know how you feel

Being that tired is not normal even for a busy mom. We are all tired being moms/busy lives/etc., yes, but to be to the point of exhaustion like you describe is not normal.
How long have you been on the anti-depresssant? Were you so exhausted prior to being on the anti-depressant? I used to take Celexa and it made me sooooooo tired I would have to tke 1-2 sometimes 3 naps a day if I could. It worked beautifully for the depression, but I had to stop it due to the extreem exhaustion... I wasn't able to get anything done!!
I agree w/ the other responses as well to go to your doctor and explain your exhaustion to him/her and get your blood checked for anemia and thyroid insufficiency and diabetes. You might have to change meds for your depression, which is probably more likely the cause.
Good luck!

You mentioned NOTHING about your diet, hydration or exercise regime (if any) etc. These things can make a HUGE difference in your energy level.
If you have been on meds for some time, I would HIGHLY recommend a detox. The number one thing that puts toxins into the body is MEDICATION! Some people say there's nothing to detoxing.....I say, if they say that, they've never detoxed!! When the body is suggish, it's telling you there are toxins that need to be removed from the body. Possibly you also need to build up your immune system. Do some homework on it. There are lots of ways to do it and you'll want to figure out what your personality can handle. Some are very rigid and others aren't near as much. Depends on how serious you are and what you want to accomplish.
THE DETOX DIET is an EXCELLENT source of reading about detoxing...everything from caffeine, to drugs and sugar. Oh, yeah......STAY AWAY FROM SUGAR, PROCESSESSED & REFINED FOODS! They add to your problem too.
Protein is very helpful in keeping up your energy level AND keeping you from craving sugar. On top of that, you need to be "grazing" every 2 1/2-3 hours...150-200 calories. You'll be AMAZED at what that will do for your metabolism and energy level.

some ideas to try:
take a daily vitamin, specially Bcomplex
make sure you're not pregnant or going through menopause
exercising early in the morning kick starts your metablism helping you lose more weight but also giving you more energy for the entire day
have your dr. check your blood levels, see if you're diabetic or hypoglycemic (too low of sugar instead of too high), check to make sure all your lymphatic system is working properly, see if you're anemic

I just did a search on the internet a couple weeks ago about how much sleep we need. I think it was saying 7-8 hours a night for adults.
Kids wear us down and we feel like we need more sleep. Sometimes a nice walk outside does what we need.

Hi D.,
I had this problem a lot too. I use to sleep for 10 or more hours a day. I had this problem for as long as I can remember. So I just thought that is what my body required. I was tired of being tired though. So I saw my doctor. I knew I was not depressed. He checked my thyroid it was extremly low. Also I have allergies and was congested a lot. I was put on synthroid and Zyrec D. That has helped a lot. Having a low thyroid can also cause depression. I have also been taking a drink very rich in vitamins and antioxidants called MonaVie Active that someone suggested. It also has helped with fatigue and joint pain (contains glucosimine). I was a little skeptical of this but it has helped a lot to. Its expensive so I decided to become a distributor to help with costs. Now my doctor and chriopractor are buying it from me. I also am a nurse and have a lot of older patients buying it from me. If you are interested in it here is my website you can try a bottle.

Have you talked to your doctor? You may have anemia or hypothryoidism. Both can easily be checked via blood work. Also, both can be treated through medications.
If it's neither of these, I would also check on chronic fatigue syndrome. I believe this is more difficult to specifically diagnose, but at least you'd know what the problem is.
I was very tired for a while and my doctor did the first two tests. I was diagnosed with anemia and put on iron pills. My doctor also recommended I slow down a little and try not to do too much. Easier said than done!
I hope this helps! Best of luck,

I don't know what type of medicine you are on, but my experience was that the medicine my doctor prescribed wasn't what my pharmacy gave me. The generic didn't work as well as the namebrand. Once they switched me back to the namebrand I was back going full force. Depression can be a tricky little monster so I would call your doctor and check the dosage level also. I was able to start taking less because I became very active at our YMCA and lost weight and the exercise has given me more stamina to keep up with a 1 and 3 year old. The other recommendation is to get your thyroid checked. It needs to be checked every year. Especially if you are noticing extra weight gain that you can't account for. The thyroid problem can also effect your skin and hair. Hope you get it figured out so you can rest!

I'm bipolar AND by nature, am very lazy! I didn't realize I had a physical problem--I just thought it was all me not performing well, being a bad mom, wife, person, until my friend suggested I start taking a multivitamin because my iron levels might be low.
Two short days after taking a prenatal vitamin (and I'm not trying to get pregnant, prenatals are just complete and cheaper!) I started feeling better and not needing to nap when my daughter did. When I'm of my vitamins, I just crash, no matter how much good sleep I got.
Someone else here suggested an iron deficiency--it was the first thing that came to my mind, too.

Couple more things to think about:
From my education in a psych program and from my own experience with depression, it may not be the antidepressants - it could be the depression itself. Try cutting out a couple of hours - I know it sounds crazy - to see if maybe you are overdoing the sleep. (And your depression might be a bit better too.)
Also, make sure your bed is for only 2 things - sleep/rest and sex. Not for eating, watching TV, none of that. It will help your body associate laying in bed for sleep and it needs to prepare for sleep when you're in bed. (Your body will easily figure out which of the two activities it should be ready for ;) .)
With 7 kids this last part might be difficult: Set up a routine before bed, after bed, and have a regular schedule. It doesn't have to be an elaborate routine - it could just be, say, at 9:45PM writing in a journal for 15 minutes, 10:00PM sleep, then 6:00AM take a shower.

Unfortunately, D., that's one of the side effects of antidepressants. Also, if you didn't get to the root of your depression, then you're only masking it with an antidepressant. I was on Zoloft for a couple of years and it was the worst decision I ever made, but seemed to make sense at the time. I felt great at first, but over time your lows aren't as low, but your highs aren't as high either. You're just kind of in the middle all the time. Just be careful. Make sure you really need the meds. And to warn you getting off of them, even weening off, is really difficult.

Definitely have your doctor check your thyroid. And definitely add exercise - every little bit counts and I can say from experience, when I start out tired, I feel energized after an hour of exercise. Seems like it would work the opposite. It helps you sleep better at night, too! Also diet - make sure you're getting a good variety of fruits and vegetables with whole grains, lean meat, low-fat dairy and plenty of water! You'd be surprised at how many "ailments" diet and exercise can greatly help &/or eliminate. Absolutely see your doctor!

Hi! Nice to meet you Tired! My first name is Tired too, my middle name is overly exhausted and my last name is WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON???!!! Assuming you are not pregnant I will tell you there isn't anyone I know that isn't having this problem. Just yesterday my boyfriend came home and fell asleep on the bed for an interrupted hour (people kept calling), he got up to watch t.v., we ate, I had a million things to do (all trying to keep my eyes open with toothpicks) and he fell asleep around 8-830! I honestly thought it was just me. I'm not working due to an injury but I do go to physical therapy 3x a week for about 2-3hrs each time. I come home from that and am exhausted. The days I don't go I thought would be fine but I am finding myself unable to function normally because I'm so tired. I don't take naps only because I really don't have time to but I do everything so slow because I'm so tired that I think I should just sleep. I have tried doing that in the past and slept for 4hrs one day!!!! Everyone keeps saying its the weather. Do we need to move to stay awake? I'm not taking antidepressants, I probably should be, but I bet being tired is a side effect. Ask your doctor, maybe they can switch you. Get some blood work done, maybe there is an underlying illness you are unaware of. I'm pretty sure mine is due to surgery in December an injury in April and physical therapy just starting in May. Good luck! -H.-

You have every reason to be tired but exercise does help if you can sqeeze that in (I do it from 6am to 6:45am 2-3 times a week at the most - sometimes only get 1 day in) and have your Thyroid checked. It's more typical to go out of whack after 40 but that is a big reason for that kind of fatigue. Exercise will help you chuck the anti depressant too! I am 47 years old, work full time with 2 girls who are involved in dance, soccer, cheerleading and I'm on PTO and very involved in my church and volunteer efforts. There is not a day that I leave work and just go home. Have your doctor do a blood test on your Thyroid. Hang in There! S.

Dear D.,
You have to understand that conventional medicine doesn't pay your doctor to really figure out what is wrong. In your case the cause could be any one of 1,000 different problems. Since your doctor doesn't get paid for finding the cause or a problem they give you head meds. Still leaves you with the problem.
Like the commercial says, there is good news. Dr. Merkle is VERY GOOD at helping people get healthier. When he helps them they often lose their symptoms. The thing you need to understand is that insurance may or may not pay for the necessary testing. But you need to get tested to figure out what is wrong. The office is in Dayton, Ohio but the testing is done at any local LabCorp.com office so you don't have to come to Dayton. Consultations can then be done over the phone. Office is ###-###-#### and his web site is www.3000health.com and he has downloadable copies of his radio shows you can listen to.
They don't know S. at the office so if they ask just say a net friend gave you the link. Please do keep in touch and let me know how you improve - ____@____.com

I am 56 and exhausted all of the time lately. I get up at 5:45 a.m. to get the 10 year old out the door for his bus at 6:50 a.m.. I come back in and actually force myself to do the dishes and go on line to look for a job (I am out of work again and depressed about it) until about 9:30 a.m. I then take a nap for 1 to 2 hours. Get up, do a little housework, eat lunch, and by 1 am ready for another nap that can be 1 to 1 1/2 hours. He comes home, I fix him a snack, make sure the homework is done, fix dinner, and if he has ball practice or a game we do what we have to do. By 7 I am ready to go to bed, but I can't. I try to get him down by 9 so I can go to bed and I will sleep for the rest of the night.
I am taking vitamins, eating balanced meals, and can't figure it out. I wondered if my iron was down again, but I am not cold etc. so don't think that it is the problem.
I need to go get a blood workup done, but with no insurance can't afford it right now.
It could be thyroid, diabetes, iron deficency, or depression.
I have a close friend who was taking anti-depressents and she slept about 19 hours a day. She stopped taking them and felt a lot better and slept less but she is still tired all of the time and takes 3 naps a day. Her doctor is finally doing a blood work up on her to see if he can locate the problem.
I would suggest a blood workup.

Anti depressants tend to make you sleepy. Try taking it at night before going to bed.
Also, talk to your OBGYN doctor. Women go through multiple hormonal changes. Perhaps there's an imbalance that she can suggest a supplement or drug that will give you a boost.
I know there are several vitamin and supplements out there that claim to give energy. I've heard that bee pollen and vitamin B helps. I know that eating a diet higher in protein and reducing carbs will help build energy.

I saw a neurologist that specializes in sleep disorders. They had me do a sleep test and confirmed I had a condition (idiopathic hypersomnia) that was causing this, so I wasn't just lazy. There are three things that cause me exhaustion and I have certainly felt that extremely tired.
1- One reason I felt this way was every time I was pregnant, two of those times unbelievable, I was even on an IUD once.
2- I was not getting to release my energy and was too stagnent and started working out, it was awesome.
3- I wasn't sleeping weel (sometimes excercise helped this too) except when I had a newborn or my kids were sick and woke us up theough the night
Hope you can figure out if it's a medical condition, a pregnancy or needing to excercise, it gives you so much energy and makes you feel so active.

Do you find yourself snoring or waking up with headaches or dizzy spells? If so that is a sign of sleep apnea. Do you worry or stress alot, even if its minor? I find myself stressing out about the most ridiculous things and I try to sleep and I have my eyes close, and thinking about everything that went on during the day or even what might happen the next if I do something stupid or if my kids miss their bus or something. I think about that and think I'm sleeping and find myself even more tired, when I do get up. I found out that I really ain't asleep, I'm thinking! I have had to take sleep pills, but they don't really work for me. I now have sleep apnea and have to be on a C-pap machine. The buzzing on the machine does sooner or later put me asleep, because than that's all I'm thinking about. But you might want to see a sleep specialist. That might help you. Well good luck!

I had a thyroid test when I felt that way and found out I had Hypothyroidism. The meds help more that I could believe.
Good luck! S.

When you figure it out let me know! But with a total of 7 kids, you have a right to be tired. I try to keep busy, now that it's getting warm, go outside and get some fresh air. I find on my days home, if I don't get changed, get up & get moving, I would take naps. Vitamins might help, I don't like taking them, though others swear by them. Of course, it could always be a medical condition too.

Have your thyroid checked- insist that any level over 2.0 be treated. Is your hair falling out? Dry skin? Constipated? Brittle nails? Irritable? Weight swings? Any of these can be symptoms of a thyroid disorder. Go to your OBGYN or IM doc and have it checked out. Good luck!

If you feel so tired after just getting up and ready for your day and you feel like you need to lay down for a while, it could be a symptom of an underactive thyroid. This happened to me years ago and sure enough I had one. It is heraditary on my moms side so I guess I was bound to get it sometime.
I would at least start there.
