Hi D.,
Kirkman Labs makes a probiotic powder that does not contain casein. You can read more about it here http://www.kirkmanlabs.com/____@____.com____@____.com@___....

My 2 year old has dairy and egg allergies - we avoid these ingredients in everything. My question to other moms of kids with dairy allergies in particular, what brand/type of probiotics do you use? Most acidophilus supplements available are grown in a milk base and therefore are not tolerable by my child. Any help is greatly appreciated...we're coming off a round of antibiotics and I need to restart his immune system.
A side note: We can do soy yogurt, but only in very limited quantities as it complicates his constipation issues.

My 3 year old son likes the chewable probiotic Jarrow Formulas® Yum-Yum Dophilus®. It does not need to be refrigerated. It has dolphins on the front. My son also is allergic to dairy and egg.
Contains: Soy (in trace amounts).
No wheat, no gluten, no dairy, no egg, no fish/shellfish, no peanuts/tree nuts.
You can do a phone consultation with Dr. Mary Traverse in Austin. She is a DC but extremely well versed in pediatric (and adult) food allergies and all gut issues. She has a great probiotic but I don't know if it's dairy or egg free. Insurance often pays for DCs these days.
Also, (my family thinks I'm nuts but I swear by it) I started making organic kale shakes with almond milk in the mornings. Kale is not only probably the MOST nutrient dense plant on the planet but in a shake it has a neutral taste. Drinking those daily has helped with all sorts of gut issues I've had including dairy problems. Maybe you can get your baby off any pharmaceutical or OTC constipation meds.
1-2 stalks of washed organic dino kale leaves
1/2 banana (frozen)
1/2 peach (Frozen)
Almond milk and water - enough to mix the above
Sweetner (agave)
I like a dash of cinnamon.
Good luck. Dr. Mary is amazing. ###-###-####
Have you heard of kefir? You can get it in coconut and soy milk forms. Sometimes you have to order a culture starter kit and add it to the milk you decide to use. You may check the health food stores because they've started selling it there, not sure if it's the dairy free kind or not.
Also, have you considered NAET treatments? My husband was severely allergic to dairy and also wheat, but still ate it anyway. He went to a NAET specialist and can now have dairy with no reactions what-so-ever. It has been a life-changer for us! We were also able to bill it under acupuncture for our insurance to cover it. For kids they have a non-acupuncuture method that some friends of mine have used to get their kids over their pet and dairy allergies.
Best wishes to get your kiddo back on track with the immune system.
Vit D3 and olive leaf extract are natural antibiotics if you can use them in time before an illness gets too bad. It's really kept us going this winter (despite exposure to strep and flu).
Have a great day!

There are several probiotics that are dairy free. Metagenics has one and the Enzymatic Therapy pearls are dairy free. I am extremely sensitive to dairy and have no problems with either of those two products. Also, NOW brand has a diary free probiotic. The ET brand is likely the easiest to find. The Metagenics has a powdered form that might be easiest with a two year old since you could just mix it with juice or whatever. There is a coconut milk yogurt that's great (we also avoid soy).
I did not read through all of your responses, but I do have a recommendation for you. I see that you live in Fort Worth. Go to Richardson's Health Foods. They just moved into their new location. They used to be at the corner of Granbury Rd & I-20 (by Pancho's). Their new location is now in front of Walmart on Hulen.
Alex is the owner, and he is great but they are all very helpful in there. They have a policy that they will beat or meet anyone else's prices locally (internet doesn't count). I saw someone mentioned Nature's Sunshine and they do carry that. In fact, I have some from there right now. If there is any other brand that you want though, they will order it for you.
Since your son has allergies Richardson's Health Foods will be a great resource for you! Good luck to you.
My son is anaphylactic to dairy. We use Culturelle (I've found it at CVS and Target). Did not verify that there is no egg but there is definitely no dairy. My son also has a horrible stomach and takes Miralax daily for the constipation issues.
Hopet his helps!
We avoid dairy, egg, and gluten. We are going to try Inner Eco probiotic, which is a young coconut kefir (I think like a drinkable coconut yogurt drink). I have been sick, so I haven't tried it yet. I think it is at the Natural Grocer in Richardson.
If you are open to alternative therapies, you ought to try Naet, a method of being desensitized to the food allergen. I have had it done myself and talked to many that say it really works!! It is easy and non-invasive. I believe it would work for dairy and eggs. If you have any questions... I could try to answer for you.
Pro-Bio Gold, available at www.kirkmanlabs.com This has MANY strains of bacteria instead of the ONE strain of acidophilus. Far superior product---BTW, everything they make is top quality.

I but GoodBelly Probiotic Fruit drint at Sprouts. It is dary, soy and wheat free. It says not formulated for infants, but is probably ok for 2yr old. Check it out and ask your pedi.
There is a coconut milk based kefir at Sprouts.
Metagenics is the brand...
Ultra Bifidus and Ultra Dophilus
It comes in a powder form not capsule
Nature's Sunshine has a children's probiotic product called "Sunshine Hero's" chewable tablets of probiotic powder. It contains no wheat, soy or milk. www.naturessunshine.com
culturelle is now dairy free.
My son has the same problem but he's also allergic to soy. Whole Foods sells goat milk kefir and yogurt and goat milk. We recently bought a carrot based probiotic from Vitamin Shoppe, haven't tried it yet, it's in their little refrigeration section. Hope this helps!
I'm a Shaklee Independent Distributor and we have an excellent probiotic that comes in the form of a tiny pill. Smaller than a pea. We also have a child's vitamin that has a prebiotic in it, and a vitamin that comes in a powder that you mix in juice that has probiotic in it. Contact me if you would like some links to view these products.
My little girl has dairy allergy. We found out almost a year ago. We found Nature's Bounty makes a chewable milk free wafer. I can only find it at Walgreen's and it is about $10.99 for 1 bottle of 100 wafers. I am glad I found it, because I got tired of opening capsules and mixing it with stuff. We also switched her to lactaid milk (does not have the stuff in it that makes them feel icky), it is more expensive but well worth it, she has had no reaction to it whatsoever and it was recommended by her pediatrician. Also if milk product is cooked in a meal, children with a dairy allergy usually have very little reaction to it. My little girl does but not very much. Also you can find at sprouts or Market Street dairy free ice cream. Hope this helps.
Other: Family Fun magazine featured a new product by Lil Critters called Probiotic Acidophhilus but I have not found it anywhere. I also do not know anything about it.
We use BLUEBONNET brand "Milk-Free Acidophilus" capsules and I simple open the pill and sprinkle into her drink or pureed food once a day. I buy this at my local health food store in the refrigerated section of the supplements. their website is bluebonnetnutrition.com. Good Luck!
