To Start My Pill Today or Not??? TMI

After a one month lapse in taking birth control, I am supposed to start taking the pill on the Sunday after my period starts. I am due to get my period within the next couple of days. I had a light pinkish tinged discharge on the toilet paper early this morning, but nothing since then. This sometimes happens right before I start my period. Would you count this as the period starting and start the pill today or wait until next Sunday?

What can I do next?

theres instructions on the pill package. I believe there are a few options (one of which is a sunday start , which is the first sunday AFTER your period starts, another option is to take it the day your period ends, and then you J. put the little sticker on each month to correct the dates on the package) but the first 2 weeks on the pill you're not protected so use back up percautions. Some dr's say the first momth you're not protected. All of this info should be in the leaflet that the pharmacy gives you, if not you can google whatever pill your taking and find instructions on the internet

I would probably wait until next Sunday, expecting that the bulk of your period is still on it's way. Whichever choice you make, I'm sure you know not to rely on the pill for BC until you've been on it for at least one full month. Some doctors now recommend three months.

I am assuming your goal is birth control and not period regulation? If that is the case you want to take your first pill next Sunday. If you take it today there is a chance you could still get pregnant this month.

Well your period might be messed up, with a one month lapse in time since taking the pill before, if I understood that right. How long has it been since your last period? If it has been more than three weeks, I'd probably take the pill today. If it has been less than 3 weeks, I'd wait till next Sunday. Your body may be trying to start, but might be messed up with the pill thing from before. Anyway that's what i'd do.

The reason for the Sunday start that your Dr advised is because that way you never have a period on the weekend. You can start your pill any day of the week. Personally, I'd want to make sure I was having a normal menstrual flow before taking the pill if there is a chance you could be pregnant. It's OK to start the pill today with only light spotting if you have taken a pregnancy test and it is negative. Nurse Midwife Mom

I would start the pill today, even though you say you have "spotting" it would still be considered your period. I get that too!
