Hey momma's! Thanks for all the responses with bed ideas! Wanted to know if anyone has bought a bed from IKEA and what they thought of the quality and especially the mattress. I'm not too happy that I have to buy a mattress from them since everything they sell has strange sizing. The bed we're thinking about is the blue plastic toddler bed which requires a foam mattress. We're just thinking that the foam mattress won't provide much support or comfort. Thanks!!! =)

Don't know anything about IKEA's beds, but I saw a nice looking white one at WalMart for $40. You would need to buy a mattress separately, but at least the sheet sets would be easy to buy. You could also check resale shops, Kid to Kid and Once Upon a Child have nice quality things and have locations all over the metroplex.

I wouldn't think a foam mattress would last very long or provide enough support once they start weighing more.

In the "Baby Bargain Book" they rated the foam mattresses pretty high. It was an older book -- maybe form 3 years ago. You might check the newest one to see if their reocmmendation changed.

I bought the blue plastic bed you're considering and my 2 year old son loves it! The bed actually looks plastic, but it is really a plastic coating around a wood frame - very heavy and sturdy. (It can hold me with no problems and I'm 8 1/2 months pregnant!) I also was worried about the quality of the mattress that goes with the bed, but I have been pleasantly surprised. I was worried that my son would have trouble transitioning from a hard foam crib mattress to the softer Ikea mattress, but it hasn't been a problem. The slats that the mattress lies on provides enough support that the mattress feels firm. We've been very pleased with this bed.

Hi, A.
We bought the pink and red bed that you are talking about and my 2 yr old LOVES it. It's so close to the ground and the mattress fits right in it so, so far it has been pretty safe for her too. Good Luck.
