We have been very lucky that our daughter loves her crib and has never tried to make an escape. For her third birthday we have promised her a big girl bed (toddler bed complete with Tinkerbell bedding). We received the bed as a gift and it looks nice. I have been looking for a railing to go with it to make sure she doesn't fall out. My problem is that the toddler bed uses the old crib mattress with the frame of the bed being horizontal bars under the mattress. The only railings I have found are designed to fit between a mattress and boxspring and most state "not for use with toddler beds". Has anyone found a bed rail that clamps directly to the bed frame? Do I have any other options? Thanks for your help.
Instead of a pool noodle under the fitted sheet (it was October; no one had pool noodles any more!), we took some pipe insultation and put that under the fitted sheet. It makes a little ridge under the sheet, so my daughter hasn't fallen out since we installed it. Plus, it cost less than $2, rather than the $99 wodden rail that would have gone with her crib! Hi. We got my son a big boy bed (actually a bunk bed) at the age of 3. Looked at railings and kind of ran into the same trouble. I didn't want something that would be hard to install and be too much in the way. We ended up getting a portable bed rail (Bed Bolster to go). It is a tube that you inflat and a strap wraps it around just the mattress and it has worked out perfectly. I found it at One Step Ahead (http://www.onestepahead.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId..., but can't remember if that is where I ended up ordering it or someplace else. (We just got the tube and cover, didn't bother with the deluxe with a hand pump.) It keeps him from falling out and he can climb over it to get in and out of bed. It also packs up pretty small so if you do ever go anywhere and may need a railing you could bring it with you. Hope this is helpful! Good luck!
cut a piece (or 2) of heavy cardboard (or 1/4 inch plywood or an old piece of paneling) to fit between her mattress and the bars and you can use any side rail you can find.
Babies R Us sells one but it was really expensive. We tried the toddler bed without the rails and have had no problems. I've also heard of putting a pool noodle under the sheet along the side of the bed so they won't roll out, but I don't know if that works or not. Good luck!
Have you considered putting the mattress on the floor for an adjustment period. This is what we did with my daughter until she was used to sleeping without rails. It took about a month. Just a thought.
There is one rail on the market that is $80!
For $45, I just bought a toddler bed by Delta that is Winnie the Pooh theme. It comes with rails. Are you sure the bed has no rails? Usually a toddler bed does. Even though her crib converted to a toddler bed (without a rail), she fell out every night. So, I know that not having a rail just isn't an option for us.
we had the same problem except his crib is a convertible crib into toddler bed. we found a smaller size bed rail that fits toddler beds at babies r us. they do have them. justa sk the clerk where to find them, but specify it is for a toddler bed not a twin bed
I had the same problem with my daughter. I found a great idea online (that worked REALLY well) was to get a swimming noodle (you know those long, soft tubes) and place it between the sheet and the mattress on the edge. I didn't have one at first so I just used one of her thicker blankets and rolled it tightly. It worked great!
