they way i look at it if she will drink chocolate milk in a cup and not white. Whats wrong with te chocolate milk? As long as she is getting milk. Whats the difference between white one percent and chocolate one percent other than the chocoate may ave more sugar? Wippie at least she is getting milk. Try half chocoalte half white. You can also do strawberry milk. I wouldn't complain she will grow out of it. Shes only 3. I have 4 kids with one on the way and they all drank breastmilk to formula to milk. Than around 2 refused milk unless it was chocolate and by age five the drank both.

Two things come to mind.

1. She's testing you. She wants to see if you'll be persistent and make her drink it from a cup. This is about her obedience. So teach her to obey. Pour the milk in a cup, set the timer and let her know what the consequences will be if she does not drink it up by the time the timer goes off. Follow through, don't break down and give her something else. She is old enough to learn to do what she's told. This translates to all other types of behavior, and you'll find she'll benefit from this training in other areas. Stay consistent.

2. Milk is not the only source of calcium, fat and protein that your daughter can benefit from. Fruits and vegetables have calcium in them, and many other foods are fortified with it. So not loving milk isn't the end of the world. Just be sure she's eating fruits and vegetables, these are much better for her. And we get tons of protein in our American diet that to insist people drink milk for it is downright crazy! (same for fat too! ;))

Best wishes!

Hi,
did you try the zippy cups? or you can get the one that comes with the straw and see if she'll drink from there. If not then try to have her eat cereal with milk or oatmeal made with milk instead of water. Give her a little more than the average of orange juice for the calcium as well. Try to make it fun for the both of you, she'll drink her milk and you'll drink your coffee or tea with her. Let her see that she is not the only one drinking her breakfast from a cup.
I hope this helps.

Maybe try with a straw , get a curly one for the novelty factor , she may go for that.

There is no reason she really needs to drink any milk at all. She is 3 and plenty old enough to get her nutrients from food. Give her a daily vitamin and probiotic if you are worried about it. No need to force milk. Water is best for hydrating anyway.

I have one mile lover and one mik hater. The doctor said as long as they get their dairy, it does not matter what form, so if she will have cheese, yogurt, ice cream, cottage cheese ect, a little choc milk and then water should be fine.

consistency.. consistency.. consistency.. that is the key to get your toddler to do anything. I am glad you took away her cup, I hope it wasn't abrupt like one day bottle then one day cup...
It is okay that she will not drink milk all the time.. she will drink it when she is ready.. every child is different. There are different ways you can get calcium and vitamin D-
Dont' stress, love your lil girl and pick your battles!! Its only milk ... :)

If she has no other options but milk, she will drink it. It's hard as a parent to not give into your child when you're concerned about them eating and getting what they need.

You are correct that chocolate milk only is a bad option and will create more problems in the end. We're lucky that our son doesn't like it, and our daughter thinks that milk is the only thing available for drinking.

I'd offer only milk for a day and see how that goes. She may not like the taste of milk (I personally do not), so I'd ask the pediatrician for alternatives. People usually falsely believe that milk is the only source of nutrients such as calcium when it's also found in many other foods such as broccoli, etc.
Your pediatrician should be able to tell you what nutrients are most important from milk and how you can find them in other food sources (beyond calcium).

Good luck!

I think if she is overall good eater otherwise, no need to be so worried about her lack of drinking milk. Chocolate Milk is also Milk, may be you can offer her homemade milk shakes, smoothies, rice pudding, cheese slices, cheese and crackers etc along with vitamin supplements.

PS: Try the bowl with straw for cereal, take her shopping and let her choose her favorite color cups to drink from. Please educate yourself about 3 year olds healthy eating/ drinking options.
