there is nothing more entertaining (and frustrating) then spending the day with a toddler. My soon to be 16mnth old and I were baking christmas cookies tonight (well I was baking was stiring his blocks in a big pot) and I was trying to follow this recipe that used premade cookie dough and preserves. now I am an exellent cook, but I can't bake to save my life which is why i thought using a recipe using premade dough would be good. however when they came out of the oven they were soggy in the middle (they are suppose to be in bar form) even though they were crunchy on top. they tasted ok but they need to be eaten with a spoon lol. I was a little disapionted. my son was watching me so I said "mommy's cookie did turn out to well." he stands up walks across the room and hugs my legs. I smiled and broke off a nonsoggy piece and asked if he wanted to try them. he looked at me like i was crazy, backed away and shook his head no. Priceless. what funny reactions have you mommas gotten from your toddlers?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I love the responses so far! toddlers do the silliest things! I though of one more my son did a couple days ago. he has been teething and getting really cranky around meal time because certain things hurt his teeth. so he has been eatin alot of scrambled eggs and oatmeal and other soft foods. well the other night he didnt like what I served him and threw it across the room. now I had been dealing with his tantrums all day and even though I have a no yelling policy I had had enough and started yelling. "That is enough we don't throw food! do you need a time out!" my son knows that mommy doesnt yell a lot so he tips his head and get real serious and says "do you?" I couldnt help it I laughed and said "maybe"

I dont' think this is a funny reaction per se, but my daughter woke us up on Sunday at 7 am screaming into th ebaby monitor "Cocka-doodle-doo!" She has no appreciation of how smart or funny she is.

She also says, "Dats ok, Mommy" anytime anyone does anything even vaguely negative. I drop a pice of paper = "Dats ok, Mommy." She knocks over a toy = "Dats okay, Mommy" I bang my head on something, "Dats ok, Mommy."

My 2 year old is apparently our house manager. If he hears the baby cry, he'll inform me, "Mommy - Baby!" If I don't respond to the crying, his tone becomes commanding and he'll point in whatever direction he thinks the baby is, "mommy, BABY!"

I hear ya girly on the spending your day with a toddler. I have a 2 year old daughter. There are hundreds of funny little things she dose through out that day. One that sticks in my thought is when I was shopping for some new jeans. I had tried on so meny pairs of jeans and having no luck. I said something about mommy having a big but. She walks behind me and takes a good look and the tush in qustion. With a very serous face she pats me and said "I still love you mama". I laughed and huged her...then we went to get Ice cream.

CUTE story :)
Whenever my 2 year old has to apologize to his brother (or anyone for that matter) for maybe hitting or not being nice he comes up and rubs the top of his head and says "I sorry". We have NO CLUE why he rubs the head, but does it every time he has to apologize!

Loved your story!!! I love these kinds of mamapedia questions!

When my son was about 3ish, we were really on him to try to learn to be patient....anytime he would get easily annoyed or over anxious to do something, I would reinforce this by saying "Nicklas, you really need to practice using your patience"....One night I was giving him a bath and everything was just going bananas....I started to rush him through his bath (and his playing) when he turned to me and said......"Mom, you really need to practice using your patience"....Don't you hate it when your kids use your own lines against you???

I just had our 3rd child and we did not know the gender. So, when "She" arrived we called to tell our other 2 children what we had. We told our son, our oldest, that we had a girl and his response was "Ahhh Man!!!" and dropped the phone and walked away. Our sitter had to pick up the phone and tell us he was mad. He wanted a brother. Well, 3 weeks later, he loves her to pieces - but he has already told Mommy and Daddy that we can go ahead and have another baby - but make sure its a boy this time. Ha HA HA.

Cute story.

When we are grocery shopping, and my son is riding in the little car cart. About every 2 minutes he turns around and says "Hi mama, how you dooooooin". He does this every single shopping trip, for the ENTIRE trip. Cute, but bordering on annoying now LOL!

My 4 year old was imploring us to come wipe him the other day, and we were ignoring him after telling him that he could do it himself (he has plenty in the past but is on this current kick). Our 2 year old was sitting with us and everytime his brother would shout, "Come wipe me!" from the bathroom, he would pipe up and say, "Not cool! Not cool!" It was so funny!

My 4 year old had only been 4 about a week, and we were having a rough time with him. I asked him, "Do you have problems hearing?" and he replied, "I have problems hearing things I don't want to hear." Out of the mouths of babes!

Very cute story! 16 months is such a wonderful stage :)

I have 3 stories about my son (who will be 2 on Friday). He's a really big talker, he's been saying complete sentances since he was 11 months old and we really can't ever get him to stop talking haha...the other day I was putting him down for a nap, and was patting his little butt and singing to him while he was drifting off (i also had my 11 week old daughter attached to my left breast, dozing off also) and all of a sudden Cooper starts clenching his whole body up and rips a huge fart. I couldn't help it, I started laughing so hard and he sat up and looked at me all serious and said "You can't breathe? That fart stinks so bad!"

Just yesterday I was doing a quick-change in the hallway, and he ran past me and slapped my bare butt and sang "Mommy got a big ol' butt, OH YEAH!" then scurried off giggling

I was changing his diaper once and started gagging at the stench and hooted out "woooo boy, what did you eat!?!". His response was a very stoic "boogers."

Oh and I know I said only 3 but there's one more....he will not eat mustard now (which he used to looove) because he thinks his sisters diapers are filled with mustard

i freakin love toddlers! Great question, I'm looking forward to reading everyone else's responses

This is one from my then 2 year old son. I put him in time-out at my Mom's house. She doesn't have the designated quiet chair like we do, so I put him in a chair and turned it toward the wall and told him to look at the wall. I looked over and he had turned the chair around. I said "Mommy said to look at the wall". His response "There's a wall over here too, Mommy!"

My 20 mos old Daughter has a cold right now, with a little bit of a cough. Last night after we put her too bed we heard her cough. Immediately after she yelled, "Daddy! I okay!"
My 5 yr old has yet to run out of things to make me smile. Last night she was laying in bed reading books with her daddy. I over heard her say, "Daddy, I am so lucky I always get better books than you. Mine have pictures and yours don't!"

My daughter is 2.. if I ask her or tell her to do something that she doesn't want to sometimes she'll look at me like umm you talkin to me... it's sooo cute.
We also have this game.. actually it started with me and my old best friend in high school where we lick eachother's face... hahaha I can see some moms cringing right now. So she'll come up to me and lick me on the cheek and laugh so hard and I'll play fight like oh no I'm being licked and she gets such a kick and has the cutest faces. Everyone comments that she has so many different expressions lol gets it from me from what I've been told. Kids are cute.

I put my 3 y/o in my bed the other day. Sometimes I lay down with her for a quick nap. I told her that I had to make a phone call and pick up the living room. I'm on the phone with my sister and Aubrey calls from the bedroom, "Mama! Don't be weird! I wanna clean too!"

My 20 month old points at any stain, hole or rip that my pants or shirts might have. Even if they're microscopical she will point and have wide eyes and say: uh oh! uh oh! uh oh! and won't stop, then everyone will notice I have a ketchup/formula/pen stain in my shirt or pants! Now I have to be careful to wear the newest clothing I have lol, I still adore her :o)
