Travel Question #1 - Booster Seat

OK, getting ready for the 9-hour drive to Grandma's next week.

Son uses a regular booster which has a back, but is not that supportive. When he naps in the car, his head flops all over the place. I can't stand it - it looks so uncomfortable.

Is there a product out there for just this kind of problem? I would get him a neck pillow, but I know he will refuse to use it.

What can I do next?

My daughter isn't in a booster yet, but when we fly, she is in a seat with no car seat. I bring her Pillow Pet along with us and she snuggles up to the pillow pet and falls asleep. Her head is tilted to the side, but it doesn't flop around and she loves her pillow pet so she is bringing a toy with her at the same time. It might help in the booster.

I know that you said he won't use a neck pillow....but there are some cute kid ones out there (saw some at Target) so maybe if he picked it out...just a thought.

My twins' booster seats have side head rests so they can sleep and their heads don't fall over. I have the Graco Turbo Booster. (it's about $50). Britax and many other companies make these boosters. We love them. My older daughter has just a tooshie booster and I feel so badly b/c when she falls asleep in the car, she flops all the way over, which looks uncomfortable and not safe.

I do have a cushion that you can attach to the seat belt itself that acts like a pillow but not sure that would prevent floping head syndrome!

I lean the seat back at the start of the trip. I recline it enough to where it is still proper but just leaning back enough to where gravity will help his head to flop back instead of forward or onto his shoulder. You can always attach a pillow to the seat with a ribbon and pin, then slide it beside him as you continue the trip.

I kind of agree with a pillow pet, although it is a big large. They have mini pillow pets, would he be into that? They are like $10 or something, you can get them at Toys R Us and Walgreens. It would be small enough to put on the side of the booster (does it have little wings near the head?) and soft for his head but not too bulky. I have seen cute neck pillows as well. Maybe if he picks it out then he'll be more likely to use it?
