hey E., i guess it depends on how severely troubled or not she is. she should definately see a therapist. boarding school might be a bit to rash. but then again, i don't know the situation and my daughter's 3. good luck!
My best friend is having difficulty with her daughter. She is looking into a therapeutic boarding school for her. I was hoping to find some positive stories for her and some possible reccomendations. Thanks in advance,

I don't know anything about the issues or the history. But I do know that family counseling is sometimes a good option.
For example, if the daughter goes away to therapy and school for awhile, what happens when she comes back, and the family may/ may not know how to deal with those issues, once she is home.
My nephew went to Provo Canyon school in Utah and did very well there.
Dear E.,
This is a very difficult question to answer for lack of information. Who resides in the home with your friend and her daughter? What is her mother's life style like? Are the parents divorced? ever married? Is the child's father in her life? any visitation? What is the difficulty? Drugs, sex, alcohol, truancy from school? fighting? lying? stealing? emotional break downs/suicidal? etc. Is she having problems with her peers? Has she been diagnosed medically for any problems, physical or mental? How old is the daughter? As you can see, there isn't much that any of us can discuss with so little information. We will be praying for your friend and her daughter.
God Bless
You say she is a teen. How old. 12? 15? 17? There's a big difference. What kind of difficulty? Drugs? Running away? Not cleaning her room? Another big difference.
What is the difficulty?
My sister just came out of a therapeutic foster home and has been in it for a year and half because she was running away to go to parties, doing sexual favors for rides to these parties and just disrespecting my parents authorities. My sister went in when she was 15 1/2 and is now 17 almost 18. This did wonders for her and she is doing better in school and in the home life. She just moved out to live with her boyfriend at his parents house. I am proud of the way she has become and how much it helped. Some things people you can't change with punishment because it doesn't work on all, and depending on the situation it can call for drastic measures. I wish the best for your best friend and hope it all works out. But if she wants to do that we worked with Social Services because they were the ones who recommended it to us in the first place. Or she can research it on the the internet. :) good luck. I know how teens can be.

My friend sent her daughter to Outward Bound and found it to be a good experience.
even though sending the daughter away is a good idea, don't use it as a problem solver all the time because it might not work and it depends on the situation.
