We just bought our 4 year old a twin bed and now I'm in need for a mattress cover that WORKS well when he has his occasional bed-wetting accidents. Please help!

What can I do next?

Rather than invest in a mattress cover that you'll only need for a short period, consider using a "drawsheet". When I finally got my then 4-year-old out of pullups at night, I bought a couple of changing table pads for the middle of the bed. I folded a flat sheet in half and put it over the pads and tucked it in. On the rare occasions when she wet in the middle of the night, we just pulled off the pads and drawsheet so she could go back to sleep. We didn't need to use it for long, so I wasn't out the price of an expensive waterproof mattress. My daughter is quite the restless sleeper, but never "missed" the pads.

You can also buy a rubberized draw sheet at a medical supply store that sells supplies for the elderly. I just found the changing table pads to be softer and more absorbant.

We bought water proof mattress covers for all our beds (just in case...) from Linens n Things. They have a nice one that is cottony on top (I don't like the polyester type), and has stretchy sides to fit whatever thickness of mattress. And they weren't very expensive either, especially if you use one of their coupons.

I got a waterproof mattress cover from bed bath and beyond. It wasn't cheap, I want to say $60., but it's kept the mattress completely dry through a number of naptime accidents, and I figure it's worth it to save the mattress. My sister has bought many cheaper ones from Target for her bedwetting son, and told me not to even bother with one because they don't work. So, it would appear that you get what you pay for with waterproof mattress pads.

Good Luck,

I would imagine there is a "twin" mattress cover that you can buy...but here is what's worked real well for me: a shower curtain, folded in half, under the fitted sheet. When my little guy has accidents, I do wash the fitted sheet, but then just wipe off the shower curtain with a lysol wipe.

Sleep Train sells mattress pads/covers that feel like thin mattress pads, but do not let any liquids through the cover. I have them on all of my mattresses even mine. My husband spilled an entire glass of juice on our bed and it didn't get through to the mattress.

I actually bought a couple of the crib sized waterproof pads and put them on top of the regular mattress pad and under the fitted sheet. That way, when my boys have accidents, I can wash the pad and sheet and not the mattress pad, too. Works great for us!!
