Tubes in Ears - Brandon,MS

My 10 month old son had tubes in both ears on Friday 2/22 and everything went fine, My question is he had a cold going into it and he still has a little bit of a congested cough. Is this going to go away or are we going to end up with an ear infection just days after putting tubes in. His problems always started with a congested cough then moved into an ear infection. I just don't want this to happen so soon.

What can I do next?

Keep an eye on it and let your ENT/Ped. know so they can monitor it as well. My daughter had Ear/Sinus infection when hers were done and they thought the tubes would take care of it because they suck out all of the infection, but it didn't take care of the sinus infection entirely. About 2 weeks after the surgery she had to have one last round of antibiotics to clear it up and has been excellent ever since.

As a mom who interviewed the pediatrian when pregnant about not wanting tubes, ALL 3 of my boys have had tubes put in. Shows you how much I knew:) Since the tubes, there have been NO ear infections. My oldest son's tubes fell out on their own about 2-3 years ago, about age 3 1/2, and has had 1 ear infection since. I would also like to add that we had 1 twin get tubes and one not, since he did not have the qualifying ear infections, and the one without ended up speech delayed because he had fluid in his ears and we did not even know it. It can be scary, but overall is a great technology. By the way, we do not use earplugs in water and have not had any problems.

The tubes are for draining fluid from the ears so there is no opportunity for inf.
It is so much better than living on antibiotics for the child,

My daughter (now 8) had tubes and her adnoids taken out when she was 2, she still had the occasional ear infection but only like 1 time a year (compared to 4 a year, that's awesome) but she still had them, if your doctor gave him drops then use those, I'm suprised the doctor did it with him having a cold to start with but it is possible that he'll still have an ear infection but hopeuflly the tubes will work and drain it all out! This probably doesn't help, but just wanted to let you know it does get better! Now, my daughter is only sick like once a year!
