Twin or Full Size Bed

Hello All. Amy's last request got me thinking...Should we buy a twin or full size bed for my son who is turning 4? The plan is for this bedroom set to be the one that he will keep from here on out. Originally we felt that a twin would be sufficient. I don't want to take up any more play space in his bedroom than is necessary. Thoughts??

What can I do next?

Depending on the space allowable, I would recommend a full sized bed. A twin bed will probably be sufficient for him to grow into, but if he moves around a lot in his sleep, he is less likely to roll out of a slightly bigger bed. Also, if he has friends overmuch, it is easier to fit more kids onto a full sized. My 6 year old son has a twin sized, and he falls out of it every night because he rolls around so much in his sleep. A lot of nights, he chooses to instead sleep on his floor becaus ehe usually wakes up there anyhow. His room just isn't big enough for the furniture he has plus a full sized bed, and still allow him some room to play. My oldest daughter has a full sized bed, which she has never had any problems with, and she is a mover in her sleep also.

I say a full size bed. I bought my son (he's 5) a twin size bed last winter and regret it. He's just about outgrown it, a few nights he has rolled right out of the bed.
I was hoping it would have lasted him a few years, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen.

If this is what you plan to use for him to he's out of the house (off to college whatever etc.) I'd get a Full size. Think of a High School boys size now days! My cousin is only a sophmore and 6ft 4in and barely fits on his full size bed! You never know how big your child will get when he's older and it's better to buy bigger now ; )

I have to agree on the space. How about a bed with a trandle bed under it. This way it always make out to be a full size later. Just a suggestion. Good luck on your decision.

I am not sure I have a complete answer for you but my daughter has BOTH! At her daddy's she has a full size bed because that's what we already had and didn't want to spend more money on a bed when we really couldn't afford it but now she has a day bed which I've heard is about the size of a twin size bed but I can't be positive since I haven't had a chance to buy a mattress for it yet. Right now she sleeps in her daybed with her make shift mattress (cot mattress, foam mattress pad and blankets galore) which is actually comfy and she doesn't fall out but she doesn't have all the room for her "bed buddies" (stuffed animals) as she did in a full size bed nor is there really room for me to come cuddle for too long with her at bedtime.

I completely understand the space issue because before her daddy and I seperated to seperate rooms she had a bigger room with more room to play but when we seperated she moved to the office where there was barely room for her full size bed, kitchen, nightstand and her table & chairs set with little room to play so her toys migrated to other places in the house often.

If you're thinking this is going to be it forever I'd say it's wishful thinking no matter which size you go with. I had a twin size bed til I moved out on my own and wasn't comfortable because there wasn't much room to roll and get comfy and I'm only 5' 1" so I can only imagine how a guy would feel.

In my opinion go with a twin size for now and be prepared to go bigger in the future (possibly queen size) as your child grows.
