Two Kids in One Twin Bed, Temporarily?

We have guests coming for 1 week. They have 2 children, a tall 5 year old and a skinny, tall 6.5 year old. Would it be comfy enough to put them foot to foot in a twin bed for the week, each with their own pillow? Has anyone done this? How did it work?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well, one is a boy, the other a girl... if that matters. Anyways, I have a really hard getting my two to sleep in the same room together, so I called their mom. She said they share a twin when camping for a weekend and are okay. I have sleeping bags. So I think I will put the twin in the guest room and two sleeping bags and they can decide what to do? I guess I was just trying to make sure all were comfy enough and that the kids would sleep since the parents are going to be in the same room (most likely). Thanks for the imput everyone. Makes me realize that most kids are better at getting along than mine!

Yes, or on the floor!! Or you could have them swap every other night. I wouldn't even go invest in an air mattress unless you already have one. Kids don't mind sleeping on the floor!!!!! Just pile up the blankets on the floor and it will be really warm and comfy!!

get an air matress and put one in a sleeping bag. They will probably both want a sleeping bag camp out, so you can alternate or just pull out two bags.

I think the foot to foot thing could end up in a kicking match and about a hundred "mom he's touching me"!

Blessings...

That's totally fine, my 6 and 8 year olds bunk beds died around Thanksgiving and they had to wait for Santa to bring them new one's!! They slept on a twin mattress on the floor in the meantime and did 100% fine. They slept side by side.

Shared a twin with hubs for several 2 week stretches. If two adults can manage, two children certainly can too.

If it were me, I would ask the parents if its ok with THEM if their kids slept in the same bed, or if they even wanted to. Its likely one would just be happy sleeping on the floor. Good luck!

No I don't think so. Get an air mattress or sleeping bags.

I agree with some that I would assume there would be fights about he's kicking me, he's taking too much room, etc. Can 1 sleep on the couch and they can take turns or something?

It does depend on what they are comfortable with. I have slept on a twin with my son, but he and I don't fight too much and I as Mommy love the excuse to cuddle a little bit. If you had tried to get me to do this w/a brother when I was a kid it would have been a MESS.

As others have said, pile some blankets and let them sleep on the floor. Whatever works for you guys good luck!!!

When I was in high school I slept over at my bff's house all the time. She had a hardwood floor so we always shared her twin bed, no biggie!

Gee whiz. Are we really that wealthy of a country that two darn kids can't sleep for a week on a shared bed??? Come on!

Personally, I would just let them sleep on the floor. Kids can handle that (my aching old body cannot!) Put a bunch of blankets/sleeping bags and pillows on the floor. They'll probably love it!

The question is: Are they mature enough to respect each other's space and just go to sleep?

Ugh! No! I shudder to think. I'm uncomfortable just thinking about it...especially 5 year old flip floppers. Someone has to be on the couch or take turns in a sleeping bag or get something from craigslist.

No way.. Make a palette on the floor or use sleeping bags.. The air mattress is ok, but it will need a mattress cover so it is not too cold.

Do one in the bed and one on the floor in sleeping bag or air mattress. Just for a funny story, or sad story whichever. When I was little the 6 year crib was just that. You slept in it for a long time. I had my cousin who is 3 years older come to stay overnight one time and my mother put us both in the crib I slept in. I was about 4 years old. We managed other than her yelling this was the LAST time she'd ever stay with me as her legs got stuck in the rails, which were much wider in those days. So a twin bed is not so bad actually.

My kids are 6 and 7 and choose to sleep in the same twin bed every night. They have a set of bunk beds and alternate whether or not they will both sleep on the bottom or both sleep on the top. So I think they'll be fine!

Let them make the choice - either sleep together or take turns sleeping on a palette on the floor. They'll let you know which they would prefer.

Depends on the kids.
My kids could literally sleep anywhere. The foot to foot thing didn't work so well though because of leg wrangling. They slept the regular way, with both heads at the top of the bed.
There is always the floor and sleeping bag option just in case one kid is a cuddler and the other needs their space. If they aren't in the habit of sleeping well together, they can trade off with the bed/floor.
The kids will figure out what they like once they get there.

No worries.

give them the choice of sharing....or one on the floor. Our Scout troop has been known to use a blow-up swim float... not an actual air mattress!

I know you've gotten a ton of responses and I haven't read many of them so I appologize if I repeat anything...you could make it like a campout or sleepover and the kids could sleep in sleeping bags on the floor, kids love that kind of stuff. Or if you're really worried and the parents aren't keen on the idea, you could get a cheap airmattress. Enjoy your house guests.

Depends on the kids? Ask the parents, see what they think.

~For the record, my 8 year old and my 6 year old still sleep together in a twin bed, side by side. Not because they HAVE to, they just like to. They each have their own bed but regardless, they still end up together in one bed every morning. They share a room. I think the youngest brother still feels the *need* to feel close to someone...that or he really wants to be on the top bunk? :)

Ask their parents. They'll know whether or not they get along well enough to sleep together and who will be comfy on the floor if not.
