Yes, if you were laid off through no fault of your own then you can claim unemployment. In fact, it doesn't even matter if it was just you - so long as you did nothing for cause such as not coming in when scheduled, failure to follow through on responsibilities, etc. However, the amount you can get will not be much, it is a calculation based upon a percentage of how much you were making and for how long you were working. So for example, if you only had the job a few months and weren't making much to begin with, you will barely get anything. The other catch is that you must be currently looking for a job and provide documentation of interviews and applications. It may not be worth your hassle for such a small amount. Sorry you have to go through this. At least with the holidays here, you can easily get a temporary retail help job to tide you over. I actually used to love working retail at Christmas. Check with the Texas Workforce Commission - I believe you are qualified (no matter how many or few folks were laid off with you). My only concern is that it was a part time job. That may effect things.

Also, dont be concerned about the time of year. The holiday season, believe it or not, is actually one of the best times of the year to land a job (I work for an career transition company: for the last five years more of our candidates have landed during the 4th quarter and especially the holidays than any other time of year - all types of positions, levels of experience, and industries). Its a great time to network, many companies need help during the holidays, budgets need to be used up before the end of the year (or year end does not effect their fiscal year),etc. Dont postpone your search for fear no one will talk to you now - calendar dates do not effect employment needs!
