Last month I had my normal period. The whole 3 days. But this month I've been bleeding for almost 2 weeks. It is very annoying. Im ready to get done with this period. A woman has needs. lol. I do take birth control, I do miss a day here or there. Could I be bleeding this much from not taking it regually? I also had a C-Section 4 months ago. I am starting to worry. Any help will be greatful.

What can I do next?

You need to make contact with your doctor especially if you are taking the pill. I had the same thing happen and it was the pill that was doing it. They ended up having to give me another pill to stop the flow. My hormones went crazy for about 6 months.

Call you doctor and ask. Go in for a checkup if talking doesn't make you feel better. Its easier than worrying about it. With a new baby, you've got enough to worry about.

I have also had c-sections, but I bleed for a long time right after them. My sister has period problems and she’s come to find out that her birth control has made them longer and heavier. You might want to call your GYN and let them know what’s going on. It sounds like you may need another birth control. (even if this is the same BC you were on before your pregnancy your hormones could still be out of wack)
Good Luck and I hope things get better for you soon.!!

Hi J.,
Dido on the birth control. Several years ago my cycles were crazy like that. I charted them and when I went to my annual checkup I showed the dr...I had my period close to half the year. She changed my pills to something not quite so strong and it worked great. Everything went back to normal.
Good luck

J.,

You did not mention whether the 4 month old is nursing. Sometimes the hormones involved in breastfeeding can create irregular periods, particularly if it is coupled with birth control pills. However, not regularly taking the pill can effect your period also. It would help to set your pills up on a weekly organizer, and that way if you miss a pill, you will know. Make a regular time to take it. I have to take a thyroid pill on an empty stomach. I usually wake up to use the restroom at about 5 or 6 a.m., then I go back to bed for an additional one or two hours. I take my thyroid med the first time I get up every single day. It helps to have a specific time to take the pill and be diligent.

Hi J.,

I used to be closely involved in working with oral contraceptives so I thought I would give you my thoughts. Firstly, if you are skipping a few birth control pills it is likely that you will either experience spotting or a full withdrawal bleed, which will look like a period. The hormones in the birth control tablets support the endometrium (the lining of your uterus) and when you skip tablets this lining starts to shed and it presents as spotting or bleeding. Also missed pills mean that your oral contraceptive is not reliable at that stage. So in essence the bleeding as a result of missed pills is in itself not unusual. However, the fact that you are experiencing bleeding for two weeks is. My advice to you would be to contact your oby gyn and speak to him or her about your breakthrough bleeding that has lasted two weeks. He or she may feel that it will settle with compliant birth control pill usage, or they may prefer for you to come in for an examination. I think the best thing would be to speak to your doctor. Good luck, I hope it is all resolved soon!

I'm also A mother of 4,I just went to the doctor for this and she said because of my c-section my uterus was enlarged and i had fibrotic cysts . I had internal ultrasounds everything, nothing they could do about it with the exception of removing all my female parts. taking your pills regularly should help though. Good luck

You may want to ask your doctor about the possibility of Endometriosis. Mothers with multiple births are supposed to be more susceptible to the disease. It is the uterus lining thinning and shedding off too frequently. It is actually shredding from the outside of the wall, so it can affect more organs than just the uterus. Look it up and ask you doctor is my advice. It can be painful and a real "pain" in itself. I have 4 children and I have suffered from it since my youngest was born. There is no cure, however, there is a non-surgical procedure the doctor can do to ease the pain and get your periods normal again. Good luck
