Well just got back from the doctor and it is not an ear infection at all. It is my worse fear it is my tooth that I cracked back in July. He told me to keep taking my medication that I was taking from this past July and I have a dentist appointment for next Tuesday.

SO, if I have to have a root canal how long will I be off of work?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I know this sounds bad, but I would rather take my day off and spend it at home on a nice day feeling GOOD, than to waste a day off for a stupid tooth issue.

You might need 2 appointments for the root canal, but I was always able to work the same day, no problem. I tried to schedule that first appt. of the day, & ended up at work on time or just a bit late. Root canals are no big deal. Not at all the way people refer to the ("I'd rather get a root canal than.....")

You shouldn't have to be off work post root canal. They really are not as terrible as people would lead you to believe.

A root canal, is actually no big deal, you could return to work the same day.

for a root canal you should only be out the day you have it done. I don't even think i was off the entire day when I had mine.

I went to work after mine. It was a piece of cake...I've had fillings that took longer and hurt more.

I hear 'ya. I hate to be sick when I call in sick! You should only be off work the day of the treatment. I've never known anyone to take more than one day for a root canal.

Are you sure the tooth is salvageable? Sometimes if it's cracked or too decayed it may have to be extracted. Are you seeing a general dentist or a specialist,(endodontist)? Which tooth is it? If you have appt. w a general dentist he or she may refer you to a specialist if it is a difficult tooth or if dentist doesnt feel comfortable doing it. Good luck, dental pain is horrible!

i have had plenty of root canals done (without numbing or pain killers), and have never stayed home afterwards. the pain is gone by the time you are out of the office

First of all, if your tooth is cracked, you will just get a crown, no root canal. Second, if you need a root canal, you will just need to take the time off of work to have it done. I have had both done (separately) and never missed any work other than my appointment time. My former husband is also a dentist, so I know this information is correct.
