Ok where do I start??? LOL Well I had my gallbladder taken out Feb 2005. From that point to about Sept 2008 I was fine.... In Sept 2008 I started having upper abdominal pain just like a gallbladder attack. It went on for about 6 months and then it went away just as mysteriously as it came about.... about 2 weeks ago it came back..... this pain feels just like a gallbladder attack. I have severe pain from the middle of my sternum to the right side (just below my breast). Like I said just like I had when I had gallbladder attacks. I have had every test known to man kind to see what this is and doctors tell me I am healthy..... I know it can't be what I eat because I have been on a diet for a little over a year now.... I watch my calories and fat intake. It really bothers me that doctors don't know what is going on..... they literally tell me is it all in my head but when I am in pain my BP goes sky high.... and might I mention I do not have high BP. I hope someone out there can tell me what I can be looking for so maybe when I have to go to the dr's again I can give them something to look for. Thanks for reading!

So What Happened?

I am on a diet.... I watch my calories and fat.... it is not my ribs.... it literally feels just like when I had my gallbladder was there. My instructor also said there may be stones there.. I am going to get an ultrasound to see if there is any stones.... I will inform once I do so.

I had my gallbladder removed several years ago also. I have read that just because the gallbladder is removed that that does not mean that you won't get anymore gallstones. Although very uncommon, gallstones can again form in the bile ducts. This condition is called choledocholithiasis.

Hi-

I had my gallbladder removed in January. I might demand to get an ultrasound to see what is going on in there. That is how the doctor found my gallstones before my surgery. Good Luck, I feel for you :)

It takes about 2 1/2 years post gb surgery for you to become oil soluble vits deficient- ADE&K.
How much ox bile have you been directed to take? If you are only dealing with MDs then I guess no one has told you what to do so you can digest your food.
The nerve supply to the organ removed is still there. What kind of diet?

I had my GB removed 6 years ago and shortly after the surgery the pain started again. I was completely freaked out. In my case it has turned out to be Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and the gas associated with it. Upper center part of my stomach and between my shoulder blades is my usual spots for the gas pain. What I take on a daily bases are OTC meds: Pepcid for stomach acid (highest does on the shelf), Phazyme for gas and Align which is probiotic for the IBS. All of these were advised be my gastro. This combo has really helped with the bloating and gas pain. Many times the pain comes without the bloated feeling; just the pain and it can be brutal. I saw that in case you are thinking that it is not gas because you don’t feel bloated. I would talk to your gastro again but, like I said, all that stuff is OTC so you can pick up small amounts and try it for a few days to see if it works. Good luck and I hope you feel better.

I had severe pain in that area that came on suddenly and continued for a few weeks (in a lesser acuteness) and the doctors thought it MIGHT be my gallbladder...but turns out it was a more innocuous case of heartburn. I started taking Prilosec daily and within a week I was feeling much much better. I was told to continue it for 8-12 weeks (much longer than the box recommends over the counter without approval of your doctor). By the end of that time I had no more pain at all. Occasionally I will start to feel a little something and I go right back to the prilosec for 2-3 days and it goes away. Haven't needed anything for quite some time now.

I certainly don't mean to imply that this is what was going on in your case. But it might be a contributory factor. I seriously thought I was having a full out heart attack the night it first occurred. Then for several days I felt weak and like someone was poking me in the back with a stick between my shoulder blades. I understand gall bladder attacks are also very very painful. So this is just an idea for something else to look into, as some of the symptoms are very similar.

Have you been checked for a hernia or sugical adhesions at the GB site? I would suspect that it had to do with the sugery too, but not what caused the need for the surgery (diet and stones, because that issue should be gone.) I would seek a second opionion and ask.

I suggest you see another gastroenterologist for a second opinion. I am assuming your testing included an endoscopy? Unfortunately, sometimes you have to go to several doctors before getting an accurate diagnosis. Are you taking any medications such as Nexium? If not, could your doctor prescribe one? If you are, maby you need a different medication? I hope that you get to the bottom of this soon and start to feel better.

ps: Are you sure it is abdominal pain and not rib pain or pulled muscle, both can cause severe pain in that area.

If it continues I'd suggest another opinion. In the meantime I would get myself on pre and probitoics for sure:

Don't assume it can't be what you eat. You can be allergic to anything or something just might not agree with you. Your body can react to the healthiest food in the world. Even worrying can cause stomach upsets. So I would also suggest this:

Digestive Enzymes: http://healinghappens.myshaklee.com/us/en/products.php?sk...

Stomach Soothing:

Reflux comes to mind. If it is that the pre and probiotics should help. Reflux can be very painful, and can come and go. Avoid bending over after you eat. Try sleeping slightly elevated.
