You will need to go to the doctor to get a prescription, they will also run tests for Chlymydia as it is the same syptoms as UTI.
How do i cure a UTI, no blood just pain when i urinate and bacterial discharge (dont mean to sound gross). I think its a UTI, any suggestions?
You will need to go to the doctor to get a prescription, they will also run tests for Chlymydia as it is the same syptoms as UTI.
there are over the counter products to help relieve the symptoms but you must see a dr and get an antibiotic- they will need to do a urinanalysis and culture.
I have been getting these for years...definitely call your dr. and get an antibiotic...don't mess around with it!! However, in the meantime, that AZO stuff from Walgreens works great to stop the pain! But don't use only that...only treat the pain and not the infection and you'll get a kidney infection or worse!
Take "Uristat" (over-the-counter, you can find it at Walgreens) to relieve your symptoms until you can get to a dr. Don't take it for more than 2 days... it only helps with the discomfort, it does not cure it. The only way to cure a UTI is with anitbiotics from your dr. If left untreated, it can spread to a kidney infection, which is very painful and more serious than a UTI, so see your dr. as soon as possible. In the future, you can prevent UTI's by drinking lots of water every day, drinking cranberry juice, and urinating as soon as you feel the urge ("holding it" for long periods of time can sometimes cause them). I know how uncomfortable UTI's can be, so hang in there and see your dr. asap!!
You should definetly see a doctor.
I use to work in a nursing home and the dietician believed in YOGURT! As soon as a resident got a UTI she automaticaly put yogurt on the meal trays. Some doctors do not recommend Cranberry Juice not sure why. Good luck, I had that about a year ago and it hurt and itched! I was very uncomfortable luckily I work at a doctor's office now and I got antibiotics the first day of symptoms and was better within the next 24-36 hours.
Hey there, A.. If it is, indeed, a UTI then you should drink cranberry juice daily. A glass or two. Don't forget to drink plenty of water. Make an appointment to see your doctor.
get a prescription from the doctor if it is to far along. But I recommend trying. 100% cranberry juice NOT from concentrate. They carry it at Trader Joes in Lake in the Hills. have a glass every few hours. i usually mix it with 100% grape juice because the cranberry is just to tart for me. But must make sure no SUGAR and that is NOT FROM CONCENTRATE. Also stay away from anything startchy or with a lot of simple sugar.
I usually can get by without a prescription.
PS Cranberry pills do not work as well as the juice.

A., I would'nt mess around with a UTI. Go to a Dr. and get a Rx to get rid of the infection.
Hi A.,
If found early, you can treat your own UTI. You have to make sure the cranberry juice is unsweetened, not the Ocean Spray stuff, it is full of sugar and bacteria thrives on sugar. You can buy unsweetened cranberry juice from Trader Joe's or Whole Foods (Knudson's is a good brand, but expensive). Dilute the juice, every 6oz of water to 2oz of juice all throughout the day for 3-5 days. Also, get some probiotics to help boost the good bacteria in your immune system to fight the infection. Florajen 3 contains three different strands and can only be found in the fridgerated section in Whole Foods. Up your vitamin C to 3000mg per day too.
If it does get worse, back pain, etc, see your doc for a Rx, but continue with the above regimen for 7 days after you finish the antibiotics. Continue with the probiotics until you finish the bottle. I would buy a 60-day supply (plus it will be good for cold and flu season coming up to help boost your immunity.)
Good luck,

Hi A.,
I agree with the cranberry juice, but you may also want to start (or continue) eating yogurt with active cultures. It helps keep your chemistry balanced. My doctor suggested using only the white dryer fabric softner sheets as the blue and green ones can cause irritation in some women.
Good luck,
J.
Hi,
I would suggest going to the doctor first. Additionally, here's a link to a product that could also help. It does come with a 100% money back guarantee.

I do not sell the product. However, I'm a preferred customer and I could show you how to purchase this for yourself at the PC price like I do.

cranberry. Just check out a health food/vitamin store, you can buy the pills. I've warded off one before & it did not come back! It's definately worth a shot, you can always see a doctor if it doesn't work in a few days. It's great to not need a dr. visit & drugs! :-)
I have a very hard time taking antibiotics so my Dr suggested drinking lots of Cranberry juice and water. I did this for 3 days and it was gone. Of course I have had times where I have had to be put on meds but the majority of the time this will work. The only side effect from drinking the Cran juice was heartburn and peeing ALL night long! lol Oh yeah, I also took Motrin while I was in pain.
Good luck, I hope you feel better soon and many blessings to you!
When your feeling pain it's already too late to treat with anything over the counter. Get to a doc or clinic quick. In the meantime you can take over the counter Uristat to relieve the pain and drink lots of water. But until you get on antibiotics it will not go away.
Hi, I used to get them every now and then. Drink a ton of pure cranberry juice diluted with a little water. Don't get the sweetened kind. There's a brand called Just Cranberry. It's really bitter, but it will help. If the symptoms don't go away in a day or two, I'd go to a medical doctor.
There might be blood. When I had kidney stones, there was blood in my urine, but it wasn't red. It just made the pee a bit darker.
Definitely get to the doctor, and make sure you have plenty of fluids to help clear it out.
Also, probiotics are even better than yogurt because they are much more concentrated. You'd have to eat a lot of yogurt to get the same benefits as taking a dosage of probiotics. You can get them at most health food stores (Whole foods, Fruitful Yield, I bet even the Vitamin Shoppe has them)
if it is a true UTI you would need antibiotics...drink lots of water, and cranberry juice if you have it...are you running a temperature? eliminate all caffeine from diet.
good luck...this can be very, very painful...also they have uristat that you can buy over the counter for pain relief but this is not a cure!!!
some people can get away with just drinking a ton of water to flush out their system and possibly (unsweetened) cranberry or blueberry juice. if it's bad, i didn't mess around and used antibiotics. there is great stuff called d-mannose you can find at some health food stores (powder or capsules) that is a simple sugar (which is actually the stuff in cranberry and blueberry juice which makes them so good for helping to prevent infections) that helps flush the e coli out better than anything i ever tried except antibiotics. it's not cheap, but it worked really well if i caught things early enough. there are other herbal solutions as well, but i'm not nearly as familiar with them.
oh, also try to avoid any sugary products or foods while treating a uti, because that feeds the bacteria.
lots of cranberry juice and if it persists a trip to the doc for an antibiotic
You can try Azo Standard and Azo Cranberry, but you're probably best off going to the doctor. Walgreens walk-in clinics are great! I thought I had cured mine and ending getting an even worse one about a week later and was bleeding! They really are nothing to mess around with.
You need antibiotics to cure a UTI. I've had plenty of them so I know.
try cranberry juice.
I agree with all. As a person with a long history of UTIs, do not try to cure it yourself. You may not see any blood, but it is in your urine - that's what causes the pain. Do take a pain reliever, drink lots of water, drink cranberry or blueberry juice (but not the juice cocktail - real juice only; blueberries have the same beneficial ingredient as cranberries) OR take cranberry pills, and get in to see your doctor ASAP. If you can't get in for a few days, go to a prompt care or urgent care facility. No, it's not an emergency, but you have to start treatment as soon as possible to get rid of it. The longer it goes, the worse it will get. Left untreated, the infection will travel to your kidneys, and that can happen sooner than you think. Unfortunately, people can have kidney infections for a long time and not even know it - so it's best to nip a UTI in the bud!
As a note, cranberry juice will not CURE a bladder infection, it helps by making your bladder an inhospitable place for bacteria to grow.
If you're hesitant about going to the Dr, you can go to a CVS a Walgreens clinic. They do take many insurance plans (check their website) and you can get in and out relatively quickly. Cranberry juice is great to cover up the symptoms, but it will probably come back over time and if it does it will be even worse.
see your doctor! sorry is sounds so simple but don't mess around.
They sell over the counter stuff-can't remember exactly what it's called, but I am sure you could ask the pharmacist. Maybe Uristat? FYI though, turns your urine orange!
Try an alca selter. Nurse friend of mine tells me that works. I've done large amounts of cranberry juice. Don't try things too many days without success though. If it moves up into your kidneys the pain is horrible, so go get the antibiotics from the MD if you're not better in a day or 2.
Taking Alka-Seltzer works almost immediately.
I would call the doctor...if left untreated, a UTI can spread and lead to a kidney infection which can be very serious. While things like drinking cranberry juice can be a wonderful preventative (if it's real cranberry juice)they aren't as reliable at curing it. good luck
Oh honestly, don't mess around with those, not only are they completely uncomfortable the further you let them go, they can evolve into a kidney infection with a lovely three day stay at the hospital complete with IV anti biotics, ultra sounds, blood tests...oh and the lovely bill they present you at the end. That happened to me when I was 18 or 19 because I let it go too far, was paying that off for several years thanks to my not having insurance. I also just had one recently, I honestly don't know how you can stand it, especially if you are having discharge. I go the minute I feel one coming on, and I usually just go to an urgent care center, where there is none of this "oh it will be two days until doctor so and so will see you." Preventive measures are great to take...AZO cranberry tablest (can get them at CVS or walgreens), drinking enough water daily, loose fitting clothing, and cotton under wear, aw well as urinating when you need to, before and after sex, are all things that really help with preventing them in the first place. Oh, and just another thing...I like to fancy myself a pretty tough cookie...I have a very high threshold too pain. Well a couple of years ago, when my daughter was about four months old, I started feeling progressively crappier and crappier. Well, I chalked it up to a collicky baby, hormones, returning to work and standing all day. My stomach was not feeling to great, so I let it go and go ( Ihave had IBS for years...so once again chalked it up to stress). This went on for almost a month (my cycle hadn't returned yet as I was breast feeding) and I thought "my god...am I pregnant?" Well...on X-mas day 2006 I wound up in the ER with severe back pain. The docotors and myself thought it must be a kidney stone (we are talking back labor pain here)turned out I had diverticulitis, and had I let it go on any further, I probably would have had my colon rupture and die...not cool at all. Moral of the story is don't mess around with infections, and discharge while urinating definately counts as a bad infection.
Cranberry juice helps, but ultimately you will need to go see your doctor for an antibiotic. The antibiotic will stop the pain within a few hours to 1 day at most.
Hope you feel better.
