Just had first vaccinations today. Not fun. I was wondering if your infants were really sleepy afterwards? Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for the responses! After her sleeping spell she woke up crying hysterically and continued to do so off and on for hours! Her legs were also a little swollen. After a little bit of tylenol, cuddling, and a feeding she mostly calmed down for the night. She is much better today- kicking her legs and smiling again. I need to look more into this vaccination thing. Thanks for the Dr. Sears recommendation.

Hi K.,
My 2 month old daughter just got her shots yesterday. She slept ALL day. hahaha she's sleeping now too. I think what happens is they make them a little bit sick so they want to sleep. Her pediatrician also told me to watch her fever and if she feels warm I need to give her tylenol. She also just wanted to be held, I think they just like to be comforted since they dont feel well.
Oh also remember to wash your hands thoroughly after each diaper change. The virus' can live in their pee...so I found out yesterday. Hope this helps:D

Just a comment - Dr Sears has a new book out about vaccinations that you might want to read before doing any more. We do not vaccinate at all, but he is pro-vaccination and has a safer schedule if you are interested.
Peace, A.

My baby slept so well the night after he got his shots. It was the best night's sleep we got since he was born. The next day, he had a little bit of a fever and we gave him Tylenol. He slept a lot that day too.

Before we brought him for the shots, we were nervous about his reaction. After all the sleeping, we were like, "We wish he could get shots every day!" (Obviously kidding.)

this is what you do give your baby tylenol before you leave to the doctor, it helps with the shots also if her legs get swollen you can ice them,

If you do a google search 'vaccinations + dangers' or a YouTube search 'vaccinations + dangers' ...there is a lot of important info.

I have a 23 mo old and a 3 mo old... both of my kids were not particularly bothered by their vaccinations but did sleep a bit more. I remember reading somewhere (I think it was the Baby Book, by Dr. Sears) that when babies get overwhelmed or overstimulated, they "check out" by sleeping. I can imagine that it's an overwhelming thing to get poked so many times in one day and it makes sense that they'd "check out" and take a little nap. TOTALLY NORMAL for them to sleep, but you know your baby best and if it seems odd to you, you can always call your doctor for reassurance.

My daughter and son had no reactions to any of their vaccines except for a little bump at the injection site that quickly went away. I can't remember either of them being sleepy. My son is 12 and he did get new shots about a year ago but it's mainly been a while but my daughter just got her shots again in January (she's 17 months now) but I also tried to give them tylenol just before they got them.
